Hello,

I just started getting into the idea of working at home. I'm 21, I have a part-time job and part-time college, but my motivation for school has fallen quite a bit. I do intend to graduate but I don't feel passionate about what my future job may be after college. I do, however, feel passionate about possibly becoming a video game reviewer/editor, as I've played games all my life and I enjoy writing about them. I've started a blog and I've begun posting in it once a day, practicing my writing ability.

So anyway, my situation so far: I've already began researching on work-at-home opportunities and I've signed up for a number of paid survey sites, but so far it seems all of them only pay in vouchers, give points, or enter in sweepstakes. I've read a bit of this site and it seems like I could make money through affiliate marketing or ads or possibly even cash gifting.

Finally, my questions.

1. I'd still like to give paid surveys a chance, but I'm unsure of what particular sites actually pay up. Can anyone point me in the right direction of sites that do pay, or tell me if I'm probably just wasting my time?
2. Since I have a blog already and I'm determined on writing on it each day, would it be possible to get money through it? If so, exactly what should I look into?
3. What is affiliate marketing?
4. How does cash gifting work?

Chances are I'll have a lot more questions to ask.

Thanks!

First of all let me congratulate you! Not only are you on the right track already with what you are doing with your time, but you are doing your homework and have really good questions.

I don't do surveys so will let someone else answer that one....

Absolutely you can make money with a blog... in a couple ways.

a) adsense ads
b) affiliate links

ohnogc:
3. What is affiliate marketing?

Here is a thread on that topic for you to read through and study... I think you may have some light bulb moments with it.

ohnogc:
4. How does cash gifting work?

Don't waste your time with cash gifting - it is illegal.

Cheers!

edited to correct some errors...

Cash gifting has certainly lost a lot of its flavor but people are still prospering at it regardless of the legality of it, but I wouldn't recommend it either. It's much lessor of a hassle to get with a company with a decent product, these days a digital/internet based product, and go about the work needed to be successful.

Affiliate marketing works, but it's not as simple as many sellers of 'how to affiliate marketing' make it, especially if you are on a budget that is not conducive for search engine marketing. But it's worth pursuing.

King of home business, is still network marketing, just have to understand the marketing strategy of the biz opportunity is foremost in dictating your success in such a business and not how great you think the product is.

Never tried cash gifting, just didn't appeal to me.

Affiliate marketing can be profitable but it's not as easy as the gurus would have you believe. You have to pick the right product and know how to promote.

Blogs are good, so you may want to consider having more than one.

May I suggest reviewing MOIS, it has really good info about blogging and web site promotion. There's a really good topic about it here in the forum.

While it good to try you hands on part time job online, i want to also advice you concentrate on your education.

I think you already have one aspect right, that is the aspect of finding your niche. Since you have a niche for video game, you might want to hold on to that.

Surveys pay out varies from company to company and how much you can earn depend on the lenght of the survey. However you need to be eligible for a survey before you can participate. They survey company will usually conduct a screening excercise and will notify you if you are eligible.

Sure you can make money from your blog especially when you host it. That way you will be promoting your site and not some one else. You can also add adsense and get paid for clicks.

Affiliate marketing is all about signing up with a company and selling their product for a certain percentage of commission.

Most successful people combine all of the above.

In the nutshell get a website hosted on a server, integrate your blog to your site, add adsense, surveys and various affiliate programs.

Good luck.

I have to agree with the above posters. Since you already have a blog with a specific niche, add some adsense and affiliate programs and you've got a nice site that could potentially make you some money.
The key with affiliate marketing is take the time to learn it. Yes it does take time to really get the results you want, but it should be worth it.
My favorite way to promote affiliate products is to do reviews about certain products. In your case, you could review games, software, websites about games, etc....and then be sure to make a blog post about them. It's important to make the title of your post something that people would type into a search engine...this will help your seo.

Program that I recommend:
My Online Income System (MOIS- as mentioned by previous poster)

Good for you!

Sup!

Unfortunately, you'll find most that only pay in vouchers or points for prizes. And these are the legit ones.

I did survey's for a bit of time, and it works. But you make almost zilche from your efforts and the effort you put into them, will seriouly burn you out long run.

filling out survey's is the perfect "quick fix", but it comes at such a huge price.

2. Since I have a blog already and I'm determined on writing on it each day, would it be possible to get money through it? If so, exactly what should I look into?

someone here mentioned putting adsense on your blog to monetize it. I know it works, although I personally don't make money with adsense, there are many people who make a living from it. Like any method, you'll have to work hard on learning how that works for you.

ohnogc:
3. What is affiliate marketing?
4. How does cash gifting work?

Both good questions. I know far more about affiliate marketing than I do cash gifting, but gifting is also a good way to go.

In both cases, you need to learn how to market and promote. Because if you don't, nothing you do will generate any amount of income.

Your income is proportion to the amount of TARGETED people you can reach at any given time.

Don't give up on paid surveys, craete a large list of them and take them on daily basis. After few weeks you'll see they are profitable.

Try to find cash paying survet sites. They are better then sweepstakes.

Surveys are a waste of time. As someone said a few posts above, you'll burn yourself out before you make any kind of money. Affiliate marketing on your blog is probably the best choice of the three. Cash gifting is another waste of time.

bzimm,
for some people taking surveys is a real waste of time, but other people (like me) are realy enjoy this kind of extra income. I made an excelent list of paid surveys for me and squeze them for $500 each month. I don't need any skills for that, don't have to start my website or pay for domain, hosting nor write on my blog.
I do recommend it.

1. I wouldn't waste your time with paid surveys. I tried them a few years back and found them to be a waste of time, and it sounds like you have too.

2. You should be able to monetize your blog - you can use Adsense or promote affiliate programs - what is your blog about?

3. A basic definition of affiliate marketing is sending traffic to company websites in exchange for a commission whenever someone buys through your referral.

4. I've read different things about cash gifting, but something just doesn't seem right about it...I tend to shy away from stuff like that.

I think paid surveys are not a waste of time, getagrip, there are people who don't have enough knowledge or creativity to start their own blog, and the SEO work that you should done until Google take you out from its sand box is enormous and demands a lot of SEO knowledge. All this prevents a lot of Internet surfers to start or cause them to abandon their blogs because they don't reach the point when their blog becomes profitable.

In this case, I recommend paid surveys. Basically you don't need any spacial skills and after you get the basic skill how to deal with them, you can earn from taking them about $500/mo as I do.

Think about it!

I've thought about, and I've done them, and research paid surveys extensively - and as you saw, the author of this thread also found them to be a waste of time. Yes, internet marketing does involve hard work - and hard work pays off. Its the "quick and easy" stuff that people have to watch out for, and paid surveys fall into that category...

getagrip, unfortunately paid surveys are not "quick and easy" stuff. It took me several months to get to what I have today. I signed up for hundreds of paid survey sites and much of them never sent me a dime, BUT after I understood their eligibility and screening system, I made a list of a real paying sites and I use it to squeeze them for about $500 each month. Do I use SEO, do I maintain a blog, do I promote others products for a lousy 1-3%? No, I don't. Its just an extra income without any site maintaining or affiliating (although I do have a blog).

So, if you want to help ohnodc, let him learn from your mistakes and don't discourage him. This is what this forum all about, isn't it?

This forum is about helping people out - and warning people of all of the crap that is out there. I didn't make any "mistakes" about paid surveys - thousands of others have wasted their time with paid surveys - the only "mistake" I made was buying into the idea that they were a worthwhile investment of time in the first place.

I disagree with you, getagrip, there are thousands of people who make this way extra money every month (like I do) and they know their way to establish a relationship with the survey companies and get many legit. paying surveys every week (like I do). If this didn't work for you it doesn't mean that it will not work for another person. Remember, the on-line survey companies get their profit from you taking their surveys, they need you. There are many ways to help ohnodc, beside telling him that this is a total waste of time. This is the easy way to get rid of him not to help him.

I think ohnodc has already found out that paid surveys are a waste of time for him. Yes, there are some people who earn money with paid surveys, but there are a lot more people out there who have found them to be a total waste of time. I've done plenty of research on this subject, and have found that many others have had similar experiences to mine, including other members of this forum. The best way you can help him is to let him come to his own conclusion about the matter...

I totally agree with you, getagrip, let ohnodc to choose his way. We will be always here to advise him and help with things of hardship.

One advice to ohnodc, you can see and learn from my little dialog with getagrip: not all things work for all people. Getagrip tried paid surveys and failed but they do work for me. Don't eliminate any option just because it didn't work for someone else, try it and decide by yourself.

I know you already tried paid surveys and they didn't work for you, I strongly suggest that you continue building your qualified survey companies list while trying other things also.
I promise you, it will work for you eventually, like it works for me, just be patient.

Good Luck!

I stick to affiliate marketing in micro niches and with private label rights products (where I keep 100% of the sales). I am able to target smaller niches and not have the big competition like there is in the make money online realms.
Think outside the box - it will help your college education be more interesting and will keep you busy at night while you learn the ropes on internet marketing. Remember, at some point, stop reading and start putting it into action.

Affliate marketing is a great way to make money.

For example, I make websites and people always ask me what host do you use (hostgator) and when they want to sign up I just ask them if they can sign up through my affiliate link which they almost always do.

Hey ohnogc,

First, good luck in your endeavors whatever you choose. As a person with an advanced degree, your earnings potential are best by finishing school and going and getting higher degrees than anything you can do working from home.

That being said, as a person in the online advertising industry, these people are all giving you pretty bad advice but it is all based on experience and lack of research. If you are going to create a blog ... think about the economics first. Let's say you put up an ad unit on your blog ... the average adsense CPM is let's say $0.50. If you delivered 1M ad impressions ... that equates to $500 for your efforts. What are the chances that you will deliver 1M impressions .. very slim.

Now let's take a look at surveys. Choose the right company (I work for one of the top 4). Think in terms of a work week. Working with our company, the average $ per hour is $7.50 ... around minimum wage working slowly and not as a job. Therefore, you would make about $300 for 40 hours of your time in theory. You are guaranteed this income and you don't need web knowledge to do it. If you sign up for all four of the main companies that are legitimate, you can pick and choose the surveys that pay best and raise that $7.50 to around $15.00 an hour. Being efficient ... this is a legitimate job with guaranteed income. If you ever find another offline job, you can continue to do this for supplemental income.

Therefore, unless you are a web expert ... which NONE of these people are ... you are best to go the survey route. If any of the people on this email would like recommendations of companies to work with, reply here and I can let you know which ones are BBB approved and pay in cash.

Good luck!

I believe most of us would agree that it is a great way of making money. But what you didn't mention is that this model of business has a deep learning curve. For newbies, it may take probably more than 6 six months to see their first sale.

Adding adsense to your website will get you started making money with your blog. Affiliate marketing is good I also like network marketing because NM focuses on personal development and business development as well. When building a successful business I think being a strong leader is important.

Hello,

I would try and get involved with an inexpensive business in a box teahcing system for new folks like My Online Incoem System designed by Kimberely Hoffman. (MOIS) teaches all about the basics of affiliate marketing, using blogs, article merketing etc.

Give it a look. Stay tuned to forums like this. I have gotten great info here

Hey,

I am using Paid Surveys etc. Is this a recommended site? I am a single household of one, not a consumer powerhouse; Does this reduce my demographic appeal?

sure you can use adsense..you can also bring products from clickbank and promote it.. you can also put clickbank hoplink feeder on your blog..the most important is the content of your blog. It should be rich and original. copy and paste will not help.

Sorry to be off topic...

Stay in school. When I was your age, over 40 years ago, good jobs were easy to find. Now, it takes a degree to wash dishes.
Best wishes with your IM endeavor.
