I'm confused. I'm on page 1 for natural results for two of my campaigns, not the top spot but usually in the 3rd or 6th positions consistently. I have hardly any traffic and no sales, which is contrary to everything I've read.
I'm using USfreeads, which really do get you ranked pretty fast, but nothing. Any suggestions? I'm frustrated as all get out. One ad has shown on 1st page for about 2 weeks. If I'm being impatient, let me know. Thanks.

This is so simple! Tell me which keyword you use when you find your site on the first page of organic search results on google.
Then go to google's keywords tool, use this keyword and see how much traffic it gets every month.
If the number is less then 100 you got your answer. Even the keyword gets you to the top of search results, nobody uses it, so you don't have any traffic.
Use google analytics to see how much traffic you have on your site.

Hi krazyladyplz,
Offer Tsuriel is probably right - the keyword has to be in demand or no one will see it in the Google SERPs. His/her suggestion to check out the phrase in the Google Keyword Tool is a good one.
There's also another possibility - your meta description tag is either nonexistent or should be rewritten to better drive traffic.

Besides the search count for the keyword, you have to figure out if it is a keyword that has "buying" potential. Many times people will look for "free" information or "ways to XXX for free" to find stuff out. If it's not a keyword that has comercial value, it's not ever really going to bring you any money to begin with.

Thank you for the information. I went back and tried the keyword tool and it wasn't even on the list. Changing my keyword to see if this will work, one without so much competition. Thank you.

What other techniques would be good? Right now I think I'm suffering from information overload. I've read so much information over the last few weeks. I thought I had a handle on it but it seems that I don't.
I'm doing articles, squidoo lens, blogs and even some PPC when I can afford it.

Start with submitting a sitemap with google webmaster tools. If you are already in the webmaster tools, see what is your site status, just dig it there. Then you should decide what kind of promotional methods you prefer to let the world know about your site.
You can use Google AdWords or anounce it through articles, blogs, forums, digg it, reddit, your friends and colleagues...exchange links.
Start working now!

krazyladyplz: I'm doing articles, squidoo lens, blogs and even some PPC when I can afford it. Hi krazyladyplz,
It sounds like you have most of the bases covered.
If you aren't already doing so, be sure to interact with forums and blogs within your niche. Leave a sig link whenever allowed to drive traffic to your site.
Add value to those communities and you should get some quality traffic.

What some SEO course forgot, intentionally probably, to tell you.
All Keywords aren't good keywords. All Page 1 rankings aren't worth their spot.
As you see it's not that simple to succeed in affiliate marketing. Sounds like you've got the idea to get your other SEO things going to get you traffic, just know it could take some trial and error.
Lastly, you can read and read and study and study, nothing is going to substitute just getting in the 'game' to truly learn how it works and what takes to be successful.

FreeCashMan is correct. I do believe that "the more you learn the more you earn", but you have to get in and apply those principles before you can truly learn.

of course.. also remember that there's probably more competition with good keywords, and it will take a re-optimization of your website, as well as more offpage SEO, to get your site on google's page 1.

It maybe a good idea to test the "keywords" by running a google ppc campaign before you put in your effort to optimize it.
There are a lot of times that the searches estimated by the keywords tools are not really reliable.

When i'm looking for good keywords I try to ask myself if I were to look up this product what keywords would I probably use. Then look on googles keyword tool and see the traffic and compition. Find good keywords with sufficient keywords and little competition that are similar to your original keywords.

Are the websites you're trying to promote the ones in your signature links?
If so, the only one I see having a chance is the Acne one. Why?
Classified Ads. FREE. How do you make money form this site?
Business Tutorials. FREE. Is there follow on?
Keywords are definitely important, but you first have to pick a profitable niche that people will actually buy from. You could rank number on Google for Philosophical debate, but how are you going to monetize that?
Think of other ways you can make money. Look at Amazon.com to give you ideas.
I learned this the hard way. Don't start off selling in Weight Loss or Make Money Online niche. It will take a long, long time before yu see any money. You won't hardly see any traffic because everyone ranked PR4 and up has already got you beat.
Promote stuff off of Amazon. Pick a niche: lamps, yoga books, baby socks, whatever. I know it's 4% in the beginning, but the more stuff that's bought from under your link, the higher the commission rate increases. Think about it. Amazon is a trusted site. You have a better chance making money from them first.
Then move up to the higher commission ebooks, etc.
