I've been doing business on the internet for awhile and I find that there are very FEW online scams. Most of what people claim to be a scam is really them complaining because they don't really want a business but just want to win the "internet lotto". Most want INSTANT rewards when they should be looking at this as a marathon and not a sprint!

Hi there
I just thought I would add something here.
It's not so much that this is a scam but rather that it is very misleading.
I tried one of the "Get paid for doing Surveys" opportunities and signed up with the required membership fees.
Unfortunately almost 80% of the refered Survey companies did not support the country that I am from. The few that did used PayPal which does not make payments to the country that I am from.
So for me .... well sadly no it did not work out.
Hope that helps someone.
Thanks

My methadology is quite straightforward. I try to look at what the top people in their field are doing & look for the least expensive ways, were I can get in the methods they use to attract new customers. I always look to add value to my business & keep my own costs down at the same time ! Oh great lens ZiggyZoo & very well written, this certainly is a marathon & not a sprint business. If it were that easy everyone would down tools & work from their computer !

Thanks for the compliment. Must say i battle a bit with this article writing. I have only been at this for a short while and yet to make a $1 but I am sure its because I am not working hard enough (battling to get articles out ) so at this stage blame it as being a scam. This is all so new to me - really going through a learning curve.
All the best

I have seen perfectly legitimate and popular affiliate programs described as scams in articles - just because the writer didn't make it work for them.
You have to be very careful when doing your research that you are not led astray by these kind of posts just as much as the scams themselves!
The best way is to find some experienced, successful people and find out what they are doing.

Hi there
Just two things I would like to cover so please indulge me
First, ruthdfw, you seem to be in a bit of a quandry about what online income system to go for. Doing research into the various programs, such as affiliate marketing, work from opportunites and making money online et al, is vital. May I just suggest though, as a newbie myself who has done a bit of research, that you have a look at my link below. It may just help you along you way into finding something that you would like to explore.
Ok, secondly, something that was brought to my attention and I thought I would give you all a heads up. Someone I met at a dinner part the other night told me she got an email about a program called Multiple Income Streams by ForexEnterprises (aka Nick Marks).
She got caught up in the hype and paid the enrollment fee and basically it was nothing but an ebook naming work at home opportunities and a bunch of ideas put together. All of which I might add that you could get from going into forums like these or just reading up on a couple of free ebooks. A total complete waste of money if ever there was one.
In fact you can read about this if you search forexenterprise scam and read the article under : I tried that. It shows exactly what a rip off it was.
Sadly too, she tried the email contact to ask for a refund but kept getting bounced. Eventually she phone the number given and it is not even the number of the organization but they did say she would get a refund to her credit card within 7 working days. This is still yet to be seen. I have a feeling she is going to battle to get that refund.
Now why didnt she just use My Online Income System I wonder ? tut tut

Hi, Anyone with experience with my-data-team.com??? I asked them if the companies supplied adresses where to post links but they never answered, so obviously we must find ourselves. But..........how can they say pay and start getting paid at once, when you dont know if you will be paid at all, depending on your ad that you spent time typing will generate a sale. No job where you get paid for the actual job that you do???

aufelia, I would be concerned about a company that did not respond to my questions in the first place.
I tend to think that anyone offering money without backing up how the income is to be generated is possible on the route to scamming you.
Let's face it nothing in life is free and ... to earn money there has to be some effort involved. Your income afterall is directly related to how much effort you put into making that income.
For me, my time is precious so I prefer using it to do something I enjoy and that which will at the same time, bring in money.
Unfortunately with internet maketing, its not only how much promoting you do but also how effective your promoting is. So, its not good putting out 100's of articles promoting your niche, only to get no returns because your content is not creating sales. So, yeah the trick in it is creating content that sells.
I am rambling here arn't I

Hey guys,
Just back from holiday (life is tough!) and found this thread.
Wanted to chime in with ZiggyZoo.
The trick to creating content that sells generally comes with experience. And of course coming to places like this where you can learn off others' experience!
From a lot of the questions in this thread, there seem to be LOADS of 'opportunities'.
Maybe I'm a little narrow-minded, but the only 2 products I'd truly recommend for people looking to make extra from home are: 1. My Online Income System 2. One Week Marketing
If you've got those and you're following the plans then you should be sorted as far as the beginnings of a residual income are concerned.
If things aren't working, come back and tell us! Don't suffer in silence. I'm 90% certain we can help you out.
Keep up the good work guys (research is good work!)

To add, Most work at home sites that promise you riches in weeks or months is a scam. Also the ones that try and say you dont have to do any work and everything will work for you, Also a scam. Working on the internet takes time. Cant just be done over night, you want to get a program that teaches you what to do the right way and then do it, not just buy a program and start making money. Not Possible

Most of the top marketers who make £2k a day sell metods/systems to like minded people who are trying to climb up the pyramid (it gets tighter the higher you climb). They are certainly NOT scamsters, all they are doing is trying to increase the chain 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 .......... & they are damn good at it !! The main thing to be wary of is the Clickbank screenshots of making £10k a month with afilliate products - yeh right ! I find this very patronising & misleads new comers into thinking this business is easy & gives them false hope, at the start. There are alot of good folk in this business & it's important to spot what is good & bad early on !!
Cheers
Mark

Hey Mark I think the potential to make that kind of money is out there. I'm sure it's not easy but it's possible as long as you work hard and consistently on your internet business. This goes with anything you do as well.
I do believe you when you say that the clickbank screenshots lead to a false hope in terms of thinking that this business is easy. But compared to running a local/physical business, I'm sure it is easier. I don't know how much easier since I don't run a local business but seems like a lot less to worry about.

Ros I think another reason one sees the word scam used in many articles is because an online marketer knows that when people are researching something online - scam is a popular word used.
However, using the word scam might backfire on the writer. For instance, Ezinearticles will no longer publish articles that have the word scam in the title nor will they allow articles that imply something is a scam - even if it is.
The majority of well known network marketing/mlm companies are legit but it is a well known fact that only 2% of the distributors make any real money. Does not make then a scam - just makes these companies difficult to market effectively, unless a person knows how to effectively market online.

Thanks Joan - I totally agree.
Most companies are certainly legitimate - and you can usually tell - if they have openly published their main office contact details, if they have a good, step-by-step training system, a support desk - and they don't ask for money up front before you can see how the system works. It's also a good idea to find someone on a forum who is already making money through them.
But generally, those who cry 'scam' have no bothered to follow the instructions to the letter, and who have not given it enough time. Most people come into this business not understanding how much work it takes to make a profit.
Ros

Speaking of scams, I just received a check for $2,954 dollars from a 'mystery shopper' company. This is a pretty common scam actually, but there many different variations on the theme. In this one, they say they want me to mystery shop a western union. The idea is I go into a currency exchange, cash the check, wire most of the money to them and keep $200 for myself as my commission. Again this simply a variation on a pretty common scam, and has been mentioned here before. The scam of course is that the check is fraudulent check and once it clears the bank, and they realize it is fraudulent they come after you for their money back. How to avoid this type of scam? Anytime anyone makes any offer where you have to wire part of the money back, don't do it. No matter how real or honest the offer sounds. If you still are not sure ask yourself some questions, for example, Legit mystery shopper companies will have you shop things that are 5 or 10 dollars here or there, maybe 25 to 50 for something big, or a hundred for a major project. So the fact that the check is for almost three thousand was itself a red flag. Is the amount of money they are asking you to deal with mysteriously high? If it's one of these offshore cant cash the check in U.S. themselves for reason X deals, why cant they? How can any legitimate company, no matter how good their argument sounds, possibly not have any system set up to deal with American banks, and so they have to select random people on the internet? Now I have a question for you all, I have contacted the FTC and local law enforcement, but all in all there seems to be nothing any of them can do, I still have the check and all the materials it came with, is there anything anyone can think of that I can do to help nail these grifters? They give internet business a bad name and make our jobs much more difficult.

It appears persons most desperate are prime targets for the scammers. In today's economy crisis everyone is desperate and a prime mark. All of us have been taken at some point in our life's. At the county fair jip joints or at the local auction. The easiest way to suspect a fraud is when they tell you exactly what you have been wanting to hear and hoping for. Just don't allow your self to believe it. Research all aspects for truth. Take your time, ask questions and do not allow your desperation to rule your actions. Scammers do not have the patience to explain in detail and answer multiple questions over a period of time. They prey on those who will react quickly when told there is an urgency. Kind of like Obama's Health care package he tried to rush Thur congress until citizens demanded answers to questions about it. Just My Thoughts, Be Well, Karl

I guess this issue about scams, frauds, schemes, rip offs is a matter of minutes per minutes. I have been working on trying to build an online business for almost three years. I could write a book several dozens of pages long of all my disastrous experiences building that business. For every gain there were two loses. I have had very bad experiences with pre-launches and just launched programs. Some of these because a goodperson joint-ventures with another person that turns out to be corrupt. And the members of that program pay the price: losing their money. Just yesterday I have started to go through an ordeal: lost my domain and cPanel that I had through a reseller of those services as an mlm program. I had been with them almost from their startup almost two years ago. I had problem with their service but they said they were improving. Last week they terminated their account and I lost two years of work. I can't access my domain and my cPanel. They are in the reseller's name. I am losing thousands of dollars. He doesn't answer anymore the emails that my new hosting provider and the domain provider and I send him. Beware of resellers. The name: Graham Frame Domains he used: turnkeyhostings.com, wwhostcash.com, and yourcashcow.biz. I will have to start all over again. How could I have avoid this disaster, don't use newbie services, use the known professional. Use forums as this one to check them. Building a business takes time, don't go for those "You have to buy now or you will lose the opportunity" tricks.
I am really hurt.
My online business was growing, my website had links growing all over the internet. I am losing thousands of prospects.
I am crying.
Learn from this, use only services from proven direct sell
Sincerely,
Antonios

On the subject of scams, I wish people would stop trying to legitimize gifting programs. They are all illegal and you should NOT participate in them.
I once knew someone online who was a great network marketer and could go into a company and reach the top in a short time (due to his huge list...of course!)
Then one day, looking online I saw his name. And there he was, promoting and participating in a gifting scam. I was rather shocked to see him involved. So much for his good reputation.
Yes, you can give people gifts of money like we all do. But gifting programs are all illegal - don't get caught in them.
Scams are numerous online and will continue to increase due to people's inability (intentional or otherwise) to know what a scam is. But it is not hard to identify many of them. Regenisis 2 x 2 is a good recent example of a ponzi scam.
