ok, I am confused. First, I have been getting traffic to my lens which are very new as I am very new. I am getting click throughs but no sales. Today my ezine article was released and it is in first place on the first page of google above the affiliate himself. Now I would think that was a good thing, but have not seen the dollars. Am I impatient or am I doing something wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also this may be a crazy question, how do I stay there? How do affiliates feel when you put them in 2nd place.

robinincarolina: Also this may be a crazy question, how do I stay there? You can try building back links to the article, it may help. e.g. writes more articles and post it to goarticles, and then in the resource box point it to the article in the Ezinearticles.com

Never thought of that, so in other words I want to get more clicks on my ezine article to keep it in first position? Do I think of this like cross referencing? Is that how it all works together.

Quality backlinks are one of the keys to keeping first page of G to make sales you need awesome presell language and a product they want or need. Good seo knowledge is a must as well. Just don't give up and keep plugging away! Sonni

Not giving up. Just figuring out this back links thing. I went into all my sites today and did just that ( I think). Doesn't that mean linking your articles to your lens to you blog and vice versa?

Hi Robin,
It could be any number of things and as such it's really hard to pin down.
It helps if the page loads quickly, looks attractive, and is easy to navigate.
Good writing helps and as Sonni mentioned, good preselling with a call to action - however subtle or blunt - is a must.
Furthermore, there is usually a big difference in regards to sales conversions when it comes to using tightly targeted buy phrases vs. either general, informational, or even opinionated phrases.
For example: note the difference in someone who would click on the phrase "what kind of guitar should I buy?" vs. "Buy a Gibson Cherry Sunburst Custom Les Paul".
The later is in the buy phase. They've already done their research and know what they want. They are ready to whip out their wallets and toss some plastic at the net.
That's not to say that you should always title pages with buy phrases or use them every time in anchor text (wording in the hyperlink).
While it may often be appropriate for a single page "site" such as a Squidoo lens or a Hub Page, you'll want to mix it up quite a bit by using all types of phrases on a multi-paged website or blog.
Know your reader. What are they into? How do they talk? What are they looking for? What is their problem and how can you offer a solution. Put yourself in the shoes of your visitor and be sure to mention benefits throughout your writing.
Imagine yourself as a visitor who has just arrived on your page. What are you looking for? Do you trust the webmaster? Are you convinced they know what they are talking about, have used and are happy with what they have to offer? Would you buy from you?
Would you be excited or relieved to have found the page? Would you spend your hard-earned cash on this site? Would you be eager to dig into the product? Would it likely solve your problem or improve your life?
Hope that helps,
~Newbie Shield~

Hi Robin it can obviously take time before you get your first sale. Take not of all of your stats, how many hops do you have exactly?
Like newbie shield said, take a look at the keywords your page is optimized for. Are they late in the buy cycle or are they more in line with someone who is just doing research and not interested in buying yet?
Think about any bonuses you can give away with your offer to make it more worthwhile for the user. Also if you have any personal experience with the product, not a problem you had and show how it helped you overcome it.
If all else fails you might want to go and do some research about your target audience. Look into some forums that your customers take part in and actually read what they want and change your campaign accordingly.
Hope that helps.

But how long does it usually take to get your first sale? I check the keywords through google analytics and see what visitors have used to get to my pages and then add those to my pages...is this what I should be doing? I would be greatful for any answers.

I think that is an excellent goal. I just want to make money so I don't have to deal with a boss everyday. Lost my job with this wonderful economy so I have the time to learn on line marketing

Lathalukose,
Looks like you are promoting 3 different twitter products. Do a site on each one instead of putting them all on one might help, then link them together. Chances are if someond clicks on one, they will click on them all driving you traffic.
What are your keywords? Break them down and try long tailed keywords.
Do you ping your site and do you advertise and how?
Search the links on here and search the forum for ways to drive traffic and I learned from Newbie Shields you have to have a call to action. You have to propel the reader to want to buy. On my sites I use a little fear, like do you really want to see your man in the arms of another woman? I also use the avoid pain tactic, people purchase things to avoid pain or fill a need.
I got hundreds of clicks before I made my first sale, but I did it this week and its been more than one sale.

Read Newbie Shield's post above, now I wake up and have money almost every day, not millions by any means but I took his advice and it made a difference. I also made some changes and made a call to action so to speak. People buy for 2 main reasons, one is to avoid pain, the other is honestly I can't remember tonight as I have been here for about 15 hour. My brain is fried. I think its fear. Lets say you are promoting a dating site for those over 60. This is far fetched but you could say something in your call to action like, do you want to grow old alone? Put the fear in them in a nice way, not like do you want to die alone if you get what I am saying.

This was a nice discussion. As soon I registered in this forum, I thought of asking the same question. Great coincidence. I got all the information from this discussion. Thanks to all. Now I have to work in this direction.

I like WordPress as well. I also like EzineArticles and Squidoo. I make use of additional services too. There are a lot of available platforms to use.
The main thing I do is to write quality content on my self-hosted site.

Yeah, I'm trying to target long tail keywords as well, the kind that indicate someone is likely to buy.

Newbie Shield: The main thing I do is to write quality content on my self-hosted site. I am finally branching into my own self-hosted site. I actually got my domain name and host this weekend and learned to use an FTP. I'm exhausted!
Anyhoo, my site is wordpress based and I'm planning to use an SEO plug-in to help me get it optimized. I'm really excited to see how it does! So far, I've only used Squidoo, a free wordpress blog, blogger, and Ezine. I figured it was time for something bigger and better (especially with some of the impending Squidoo changes).
How many of your own sites do you have?

If you are ranking on the first page on Google, then thats great but do you know if that keyword converts?
It sometimes sucks to work hard to get to number one, but then find out that the keyword you are ranking for is a research word not a money keyword.
I would look at changing your conversion by changing the headline of the page or turning the page into a sales page.

When you are building traffic you need to do two things:
1. Think of it as a marathon (not a sprint) 2. Use MULTIPLE sources of advertising
With your squidoo lenses or articles the keywords are VITAL. You need to title your lens or your article (and include the same words throughout) with words that people actually search. And, you need to do this MULTIPLE times.
The best advice I got was to go to Google Adwords and use their keyword tool. Type in your main topic, such as "make money at home" and to a search. What you will get are hundreds of variations on this topic. Look for the keywords with less than 12,000 searches (IMPORTANT) and make a squidoo lens and article wrapped around that key word phrase.
If you do just one lens and one article a day wrapped around these smaller key word phrases you will get insane amounts of traffic within 15-30 days. Your lens and your article will skyrocket to the top because of lack of competition.
The key to making money is to get MORE suspects visiting your site who are hungry to buy what you offer. Right now you just need to get MORE SUSPECTS and the rest will come
Todd
