Participating online discussion forums drive lots of traffic to my website.

I am spending daily 2 hour for forum posting.

Can you describe your experience in forum posting?

Well, I get some traffic from forum posting, but not a whole heck of a lot - maybe 5 to 10 hits a day. My main advice with forum posting is to try and give quality advice without being overly self promotional.

I am getting regular visitors to my site by forum posting. If we give quality advice I think we will get more visitors.

I agree, I find giving a lot of quality advice and feedback with my links in my signatures works well. I post a lot on these forums which brings me about 800 visitors per week.

Forum posting is worthwhile when I have something to contribute. There is no doubt that it brings in high quality traffic, but it is labor intensive to generate a lot of quality forum content.

I focus mostly on long term SEO to get my traffic, but forums are a great way to get people interested in who you are and what you are promoting. I think its far better to promote your own site in the sig line than it is to promote an affiliate site. New members of certain affiliate programs will swarm over the forums to drive traffic to their affiliate sites. By having your own site, no matter how crude, you stand out as a committed marketer.

Yeah, you have to give some worthwhile advice or people will blow by your topic or posts without looking at it.

Forum Posting is a great way of promoting in the long run. Good SEO is a must and linking properly is another. Links from any relevant source is a great strategy and is worth while.

Forum posting is a great way to get people to your site. I do about 1 hour of posting a day and I get people to my sites. You just have to make sure you post about something you know about.

I agree 100% When I first started out and was still learning, I was in forums all of the time. Now that I am becoming a little more successful, there is less and less time.

I stop by here everyday, but don't always have time to contribute the way I used to, But if there is something I KNOW I can help with, I make the time to comment and hopefully give someone new a little direction.

I do get traffic from forums, but that is not why I still visit. I got a lot from them and now it is time for me to give something back.

It doesn't seem as if forum posting offers that much in the way of bringing visitors to your site, but like Joe said, KNOWING you can help other posters and also receive valid information is the main reason people, I think, visit forums.

Actually, if I see that a post or a reply in a forum such as this is just a thinly veiled attempt to get people to visit their site, I may read the post anyway, but not click onto their site.

But then, that's just me.

Forums are still the best way to learn and inform from and with others in like circumstances. It should never be turned into a deliberate marketing tool in so far as offering lame advice or offering help or advice only if the visitor visits YOUR site for an answer.

I believe that forum posting is a great way to get a few TARGETED visitors to your site every day. The key is making sure you have something to give back in the form of advice or input. As long as your signature is not longer than your actual post you will be fine

In case people don't know, all these forum sig lines create permanent inbound links to our sites. This is one of the real, long-term benefits of forum marketing. By using forums as part of a long-term link-building strategy, it becomes clearer what role they will paly in marketing.

Although your website is displayed as signature in this forum, it carries a "nofollow" attribute as mentioned in the Terms of Use. As a result, it won't benefit your site's link popularity.

Also, many forums display signatures and member info only to registered users. Therefore they won't help your site's link popularity either.

Forums should not be used as a medium to boost your site's link popularity as the more easier it is to get a link on a site or forum, the lesser weight it'll carry. Search engines know it well.

I couldn't help noticing that this forum also doesn't get nearly the traffic that forums with less stringent rules do. While the content is okay here, I am seeing relevant posts I made a week ago having no response.

I didn't know about the no follow-rule on this forum. Its too bad really, because it may keep some of the better marketers away who would otherwise share more information and produce more traffic here.

So forum marketing is useful if people click on your sig lines. But if we can find forums which allow us to build link popularity with the sig lines, thats one better, no?

Not to be real selfish, but I think I will seek out some other forums which may help my marketing more. I put a fair amount of energy into writing informative posts, but its not out of charity.

The Warrior Forum also cracked down very heavily on sig lines. It drove me away.

I don't remember making any claims any where about the traffic this forum receives. If your posts didn't get any response, it doesn't reflect anything about this forum.

At any given day, smart marketers would opt for traffic than links.

Links on a page serve as endorsement for the content. With links in signatures having no relevance at all to the overall content of a discussion, not applying nofollow attribute to them distract the search engines from applying relevant theme to the page and hence it's ranking is affected.

Therefore it's impossible for a forum page to enjoy top ranking if it displays member's signatures without applying nofollow attribute. And smart marketers know the value of visitors generated from organic search listings.

I'm not a philanthropist either. I also put a great deal of energy into building this forum and I have a family to support.

I'm fully aware that it's the quality of members that make a forum and I believe I'm giving them back by displaying their signature along with their posts and also rewarding them when necessary.

I'm not really so sophisticated about it Vincent, I get forum traffic here and there but its my link building efforts that get me traffic from search engines. I get visitors from forum sig lines too, so they are okay.

I hadn't though about relevancy being an issue. I guess its because I don't post to forums that don't relate to my stuff. If I were posting to fly-fishing forums with my marketing link that would be weird. It never occured to me to spam forums with irrelevant links to build link popularity.

Forum posting is okay for getting traffic, but the truth is it has to be done on a regular basis in general, so its kind of high-maintenance.

Forums such as Vishal's are meant to cater to a particular group of people. It should not be used to build traffic to 'your' website. Such is not it's overall purpose.

And as far as malibumentor commented regarding his posts as relevant, perhaps others didn't feel the same way. I have found the advice offered in this forum very helpful. There is a wide variety of topics that caters to just about every aspect of working from home.

If 'you're' attempting to use this particular forum to boost 'your' own business, and are upset that it doesn't cater to that wish, perhaps 'your' reason for coming here in the first place is misplaced.

There are plenty of other ways to boost traffic to websites. I don't think it's appropriate to complain that this one isn't doing what you want it to do.

The main focus in a forum has to be to provide useful information. The power of a forum is being able to network with other marketers. Building brand name. Getting your name out there and maybe even forming partnerships. Provide useful info and traffic to your signature will come natural.

I post to forums to try and increase my website traffic but the reality is that most likely the people who visit your website are not going to be interested in your opportunity because they are trying to promote their own.

Posting to forums is good because if you do it often you can build your link popularity and get more search engine traffic. I also try to SEO my forum posts whenever possible and optimize them for the search engines because some posts can be crawled by spiders and get indexed for certain keywords.

Forum posting as a source of traffic depends on how much traffic the forum has and how likely they are to visit your website.

Posting in forums is a really effective way to discuss and promote your product or services. You get feedback from a varied cross section of people with different opinions; however you should guard against too much self promotion as it can cause overkill and dilute the quality of forums. Patience is a virtue when you post in forums, dont expect instantaneous results

Forum posting it great...but very time consuming.

When I had my wholesale business I received a lot of traffic from forum postings. Eventually, the traffic came from other people posting my link in THEIR posts...which is the best way - if you can get others talking about your site.

The best ways to get traffic for me are:

1. Writing articles: I found this gets lots of traffic. I bought article submitter which submits your articles to hundreds of article directories.

2. Submit your site to directories: I also bought directory submitter which submits to hundreds of directories.

3. Forum participation

4. Google adwords

If you are posting to forums for the purpose of getting visitors to your website--you are posting for the wrong reason. If you are posting to forums for the purpose of "helping" other people---you are posting for the right reason. If I have learned anything in life, it is this---,If you help other people accomplish what they desire in life, you will accomplish what you desire in life.

Hey guys. Your words are encouraging. I used to only read posts at forums and only started posting myself within the past few months. I've learned a lot and am now able to share my experience with others. So, I'll have to report back later on how much traffic I'm getting from forums. It's obviously a free form of advertising, but takes some time. Though, it's probably a great source for those who have very little money to put towords their advertising efforts. I agree with the post above me. Just do your best to help others and you will reap the blessings.
