Myth #2 - "People Need To Believe I Am Already Making Tons Of Money"
(this one may only apply to MLM and Affiliate Marketers)

WRONG!

This myth is downright ugly. I personally do lots of video marketing and there is nothing worse than watching a brand new affiliate marketer get on a video and do the "I am SOOOO successful!" song and dance.

It makes ME turn red for them. It's just PAINFUL to watch.

But I understand why they do it. They are following the herd. It's what people do.
Rookie A watches Rookie B make a mockery of himself and he thinks "WOW, THAT MUST WORK!"

And so Rookie B starts telling everyone how he is making 5 figures and "you can to if you just get in under me!"

Of course, they are both sitting there praying for a meteor to come down and fall on them and put them out of their misery.

TRUTH?

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS TO ATTRACT BUYERS/DOWNLINES/NEW AFFILIATES!!!!!

When I was 21 years old (13 years ago!), I got into a company called Excel Telecommunications. Some of you will remember this one. My upline told me how to "FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT".

Put on the Success Smile. Wear the POWER TIE to the Monday night meetup. Talk like you don't need the money and insist that you are SOOOO busy but you just might have time to speak with your new prospect.

No wonder MLM has such a bad rap, eh?

Be you. Do you. Use MSM or My Story Marketing. Tell people about yourself. The obstacles you have overcome, the things you have done in your past. ATTRACT your market. Don't chase it down with false advertising. Become the ANTI BS'er. Carve out a name and a niche for yourself and GO BE IT!

Become the Golden Contact that everyone else is DYING to know.

You always keep what you give away...so give away your best. Honesty, integrity, reality, abundance, prosperity, love, kindness, service, mentorship.....learn to speak the language of the sages and your business will EXPLODE.

Inside of Myth #3, I will give you the formula that I have used to literally get rich and famous online. What is the third myth? "The Best Stuff MUST Cost Money".

I'll prove that wrong in no less than 5 ways!

Peace

This is a great post and so true about MSM. It maybe worked differently in old school marketing before computers, but with all of the new and fast growing social networks it definitely isn't most effective any more. You have to build quality relationships with people if you truly want to be successful in online marketing.

You are so right. I didn't think people could actually do that. I don't have the stomach for it. In fact, I think its getting really disgusting when some guru posts his big "earnings" - even when they are legitimate - they really have worn it out!

How true.

I been full time online marketing for 7 years.

I have paid my dues, made a 6 figure income and never had to fake it till you make it.

I also use video as a tool along with several other strategies that I pay zero or next to nothing.

The key to successful marketing is persistence and heeding your sponsors wisdom. The biggest mistake most people make when starting an online business is being creative.

Creativity will kill your business off. I advocate following the training from your company ... do what is known to be tried and proven.

Once you have replaced your day job income, then you can be creative and lead the way for the rest of us.

In the meantime, stay with the fundamentals included in your distributor packet and you will be successful and on your way to earning a 6 figure income.

Warmly,

Jeff and Sandi

I would add that if an industry is consistently producing a 97% fail rate, you may want to use your own creativity. When the industry can prove that their techniques work for the majority of those that spend money to earn money in their organizations, then follow them.

I am not saying that "The 3 Foot Rule" won't work. Plenty have gotten rich with it. I am saying it doesn't work for 97% of those that try it. I am sure that some organizations and some leaders know how to lower the fail rate. And they should be commended and lifted up.

But look at the books of nearly every MLM out there and the proof is in the numbers. I didn't write them.

Is it their fault? No. But I do not believe that 97 out of every 100 that get in are just lazy.

Creativity is the lifeblood of creating wealth. Most MLM's are teaching VERY outdated techniques. We live in a society that allows my marketing message to be put out 24/7/365 ALL OVER THE WORLD.

I compete side by side with Fortune 500 companies....from my bedroom.

Creativity is how I do it.

But if your a product of The 3 Foot Rule, The Weekly Meet and Greet Biz Op Hotel Room Meetings, BuyLead/Call/Pitch, etc...and this is your cup of tea...by all means, do it.

But I would add "You should not be creative" to the top of my Myth List.

Nevertheless, your point of view is respected and appreciated.

Danny,

The danger of broad sweeping generalities is that they fail to support the exception.

Instead of quoting magazine propaganda, what have you personally experienced in our industry?

How long have you been full time? How many people have you personally sponsored? How long have you been leading a team of people?

I always take care not to impune someone elses marketing methods especially when they are proven over and over to work.

Furthermore, slamming our industry is not helpful.

The 3 ft rule does work, along with many other strategies online and offline.

Furthermore, I did not say you should not be creative.

I said new reps should not be creative until they have proven themselfs to follow the fundementals.

Nevertheless, most people fail because they do not follow their company, sponsors leadership or get the fundementals down before going out and leading the rest of us.

I also own and operate a successful business brokerage and advisory company. I have 5 business brokers advisors in my company. We do sale transactions from $300K up to $20 Million.

I can tell you that the failure rate of mainstreet businesses is just as high comparatively to our industry.

85% of new businesses fail in the first 3 years. Of those remaining only 5 percent are still in business after 5 years.

Of those 5% of businesses who survive, very few make enough income from their businesses to justify keeping the doors open.

The toll these businesses extract from their owners is very high.

Divorce, their children failing in school because Mom and Dad are to busy to pay attention, financial disaster, bankruptcy, heart attack and stroke are all potential long term residual "benefits" of owning an off line business.

If most people who bought into a mainstreet business had 20/20 hindsight, they would never had bought the business or gone into business for themselfs.

I like to think that our industry gives average people a chance to get on the playing field and compete equally. Sure, people fail after spending only 50 dollars on enrolling into a program. And Yes, some companies require as much as $1000.

However, how many people do you know or have recruited into a program that requires $500,000 investment? How many people do you know that have invested their life savings and lost it or made a lot of money?

In my youth I earned a black belt in Judo and required my students to understand the basics. Those who did not follow the training, quickly got their butts kicked from those competitors who were diligent in practicing the basics.

New people need to find a business program for which they have a passion, learn the industry, follow the leadership of successful people and once they have mastered the basics, go on to lead the rest of us with new creative and inovative marketing strategies.

There are many Myths in our Industry. It is disappointing to see many of those mthys constantly hyped in this message forum.

If you want to follow a carefully planned and proven marketing and advertising program, then you might want to gives us an opportunity to truly help you succeed.

We are here to invest our time, experience and resources into your success.

Warmly,

Jeff and Sandi

Wow! You are an amazing guy Jeff! You have lived a life of excellence since a very young age.

I guess the law of attraction brought you here. We share many common interests and many similar previous endeavors.

Nevertheless, a 97% fail rate does not lie.

Change is inevitable. Each individual is responsible for finding their own path. Congrats on finding yours and landing in the top 3% of your industry.

As the VP of a public company for 8 years and then owning my own financial services company I trained thousands of sales people. I can tell you that the failure rate in business is NOWHERE EVEN CLOSE TO 97%.

NO industry has this fail rate (perhaps with the exception of affiliate marketing).

A person can accept it and say "it's just the way it is" or they can reject it and say "we will develop systems to change it".

You take whichever way you choose. I take the latter.

Danny, I think you have it right. be authentic, keep your
dignity, be truthful.

You don't have to "fake it" to be a leader. There is much more to
it than making money. I'm embarrassed for the guys on YouTube
myself - the one's you are referring to.

Marketing any business requires more work and GRIT - persistence
than you think it will. People who are prepared to stay focused
and learn, grow and take action are the winners.

Folks, do you give up if you aren't making money in your 3rd
month? If you do you don't deserve success. Its great to
be making money fast and it happens for many people - but
what matters is YOUR journey and YOUR personal committment
to sweating the details that will make your business profitable.

Hi all,

I always tell new people I bring in that "being new" is their greatest asset. With the marketing system we use, they will often be in contact with prospects who are new to marketing also. At that poing it is my responsibility to make sure the marketing system is duplicatable, and it is.

As far as signing someone up who is inexperienced, what can be more attractive than hearing from another relatively new person, that the marketing system works and that it can work for them too!

Thanks all!

In any argument "discussion" there are always three sides, not two. there's my side, your side, and then there's the truth. Danny, Chocolate, you both have valid points. I think what Danny was trying to say is You have to be Real! People will recognize a fake a mile away. The old "fake it till you make it" philosophy is a recipe for FAILURE. I tell my newbies to be honest with their prospects. Tell them their own story, why they got into the business, what they like about it, why the product works, and when asked how much they are making, tell the truth. The prospect is buying into "you" not your company or product. They won't buy into a lie, or a liar.

If a prospect is asking "how much have you made" they are asking the wrong question, anyway, and usually it's a smoke screen. Anyone with common sense knows you have to start from the beginning, no one makes a fortune overnight. The prospect is simply wanting to find a reason to not buy in.

The serious ones, the ones i like to call the "car buyers" instead of the "tire kickers" will focus more on the potential of a company, marketing plan, product, etc. They are the ones who really WANT to change thier lives, they're sick and tired of living paycheck to paycheck, and are ready to "DO" and not just complain about thier circumstances. You won't get smoke screens from them. Truth is, you really don't care about the "tire kickers." You want to find the "Car Buyers," focus on them. They're the ones who will help you get to the top. Let the "tire kickers" go. If, and when they get to the point where they are ready to "DO" and not just complain, then they will be worth your time.
