I have a 1 year old website but the problem is, it still remains at PR 1. What will I do to increase its page rank?
Thanks!

Hi gjohnson85,
Create backlinks by setting up a few of your own and writing newsworthy content that will result in organic backlinks and keep visitors on your site longer.
That'll help your Page Rank.

Doesn't adding fresh content help also?
Social Bookmarking with keywords/tags should help too. Victoria

Adding fresh content always helps. That's one of the rules to the game, the other thing needed is backlinks, true. Usually social bookmarking and open social networks (meaning stay away from facebook) will help get more links. Though definitely listen to the advise above.
I'm going to give one single warning. Your content needs to be unique (at least by 40% according to Google) and NEVER use FFAL (Free For All Link) Sites and Link Farms as you will get penalized for using them.

I know, it is time-consuming. Writing your own content is worth it! Not to test..but to build over time. You don't want to bitten later! Victoria

Page rank is calculated based on the number of back links that you have in your site. In order to do that, participate on the techniques that helps generate lots of back links like blog commenting, forum posting, article and directory submissions, classified ads, press release, online groups and link exchange.

Hi Georgie,
Even more so, it has to do with proper anchor text and the quality of the backlink. One high PR DO FOLLOW backlink is worth more than dozens of low PR backlinks.
That's part of the reason I say to write newsworthy content. You'll get organic backlinks that have a decent PR.

BUILD YOUR BACKLINKS
Anyway,I don't believe in blog commenting when it comes in gaining backlinks. Because blog are moderated by the it's owner. I tried my best commenting in their article but I just waste my time. Since they don't approve it especially if your site is related to your site.
So I focus doing Directory submission and forum posting. Forum posting in do follow forums can really give you an instant backlinks. Keep on building quality link.

More and more blogs are going to "No-Follow" Links, but some of them are still good to use. Try directories like joeant.com, and setting up a links page to offer link exchange to other new sites in your industry.

Backlinks is the key.
Several Backinks from some good .EDU sites will explode your Page Ranking. There are many community bulletin boards with .EDU extensions that have PR 6 and up that have DoFollow Links.
You get your link on 20 or 30 PR6 .EDU Pages, your rank will just 3-4 notches the next time Google updates its page ranking.

Strong backlinks are the key to pimp Google or if your going to do it yout self do around 10 blogs pointing back to your site then use dig and stumble upon to promote them, If you have friends with websites then swap links and tell them to bookmark your site along with others that way Google sees the site has a favorate
another way is places like traffic swarm but im not too sure, i know passing your link around facebook is good for some traffic link
hope that helps form a newbie around here andy

While blog commenting is definitely not the best way to get backlinks, it's not a waste of time either. I've never had a comment not be approved. Most comments are approved unless they are spam.
Directory submission is not something that should be a focus of backlink building. It's more like something you do when starting out, but there's a point where you've gotten all the quality directories and those are the only ones that count.
I think the best ways to get backlinks are good content, forum signatures, social networking sites, and article writing.

daniel: just advertise... Actually this will not help with PR. It just gets you more exposure if you do it well. But paid links can actually backfire and get you penalized so be careful.

moneymaker1008: Actually this will not help with PR. It just gets you more exposure if you do it well ...but it might help with at least getting indexed, if you get alot of visitors.
Newbie Shield: One high PR DO FOLLOW backlink is worth more than dozens of low PR backlinks. Really? Newbie could you possibly be exagerating here to illustrate the point about good pr? Because If you really meant this- ill have to do some googling.
GlennELee: Your content needs to be unique (at least by 40% according to Google) 40%?... It used to be around 30% - 35%. Even though my copies are usually around 42% to 50%. I like to have a nice buffer. But im still in the clear.
elle14: Anyway,I don't believe in blog commenting when it comes in gaining backlinks. Because blog are moderated by the it's owner. I tried my best commenting in their article but I just waste my time. Since they don't approve it especially if your site is related to your site. yeah, i know It happens alot, and its really tedious to comment. But if its a big blog with alot of traffic, the owner doesnt have time to moderate all the comments, so as long as your ip is not blacklisted by the spam filter, your comment should appear quickly on those blogs.
bdavis01: More and more blogs are going to "No-Follow" Links Yea it sux. But oh well there are alot more that still work. But some are removing their "no-follow" codes too.
andyc12: Strong backlinks are the key to pimp Google or if your going to do it yout self do around 10 blogs pointing back to your site then use dig and stumble upon to promote them, If you have friends with websites then swap links and tell them to bookmark your site along with others that way Google sees the site has a favorate Excellent one mate. but you will be hard-pressed to find many who can keep this up. I dont think Stumble upon and digg are enough to maintain this, but its a start (i think you know this already). You will have to do everything youre struggling with on your one site.... Except that now its multiplied 10 times. muahaha
And because this technique is tough to maintain, only cool guys like you and me may own the serps. For example, I easily have over 10 blogs and various articles pointing to one of my posts. But, If i cant promote each of them well, i wont fully enjoy the juicyness of this power. But im working on that at the moment. *now, time to let these bots do all my work*

To increase your PR you need to have your website gain Authority. The way to achieve this is through obtaining back links. You can do this buy commenting on blogs and forums (contributing info to your niche and or topic of the blog no spam)
writing articles, writing and distributing e-books, etc etc.
Once you have plenty of content on your site then your link building journey begins.

There are lots you can do for a site to improve PR like article marketing and additional backlink strategies.
The main thing is that you should not bother yourself giving it PR as long as you got constant traffic that gives you profit, it will do.

One of the newest tools out there that will help you get a lot of links back to your site is called Traffic Bug. Take a look at it. Give it a try.

Yeah strong back links can boost your PR and SERPs positions as well.
But sometimes I come across some blogs, which have quality info with PR but no alexa and backlinks. I am confused about Google algo. Does it really consider backlinks when awarding PR to any site? Or only content do that tasks. I don't think those blogs admin know anything about SEO, backlinks or PR.
I am curious!!!
Thanks Rose

There are several factors that Google PR considers. Age, Backlinks, Content, ect. I would focus on just creating great content for others to enjoy...the PR will follow.
