If I'm starting with a free blog at Blogspot.com instead of a full webpage do I still need to acquire the domain name??

You don't "need" to acquire a domain name but if you are using your blogger page as your primary web space and not just a blog, it's a good idea to get one.
Even though you can't do web page miracles with blogger, having a domain name and forwarding your blogspot address to it makes it more professional. Plus, it's only about $10 a year for the domain and you'll secure that domain and have it in case you want to upgrade to another interface in the future.

If you decide to get a domain, all you have to do is change the forwarding on your domain to your blog url - I think it looks a lot more professional when you use a domain compared to a generic blog url.

It will make your blog more professional even if you are not hosting your blog. Before you buy the domain name, do some keyword research for your domain name. You can get good ranking if you have good domain name.

i agreed with cherie27.. try to search good keyword but low competition. and make sure u get .com for your domain.. its a good domain though

Having keyword in your domain name would help your SEO ranking but the more important thing is your on page and off page (i.e. back links) optimization.
I don't have all the keywords in my domain name but I am still able to rank well for some of those keywords because of the back links that I have built.

No limit I am sure, my it guy owns hundreds. Here is what he does, he finds business that are not on line, does the keyword research, purchases the domain name relating to that business and then goes to the owner of the business and offers to set their business up on line. He just did a cigar store and I think he is making some really good money although he only gets about 10 cents a cigar sold over the web.

Having your own domain name makes you look more credible as well. Having one for personal purposes on wordpress or blogger's alright but for business you'd want to have your own domain name.
Be sure not to "miscombine" words. e.g. whoreadsblogs.com (whoReadsBlogs.com) mayb be mistaken for WhoreAdsBlogs.com.
Choose a name that's relevant to the industry (or interest field) that your site would be catering toward as well.

Regarding domain names, I have encountered the advice elsewhere (couldn't locate the thread) that it is better to have your domain bought and registered in one hosting company (like GoDaddy) but to actually host your website elsewhere (like Fat Cow).
But as a I review different hosting plans, there are a lot of hosting companies offering as part of their hosting package plan, free domain names. Are we saying that for the sake of security, it is better to ignore this incentive and just buy the domain from another hosting company?
Your opinion please. Thanks.

When a hosting company offers a free domain name you won't have to pay yearly for it but if you leave that host, you lose the name.
It's better to get a domain name you will own at someplace like godaddy and host it there too or anywhere. And if you get a free domain name make it something you won't mind losing.

This is a great idea. You could easily build a nice online business around this concept.
Kinda like what domainers are doing as a business. Still, you have to think about the cash investment upfront to tie up the names.
You may also want to stay away from trademarked names. I think that could become a legal hassle with the wrong people involved.

I like the idea of having all my domains with one registrar.
Hosting at several different companies is not that big a deal. It is just a matter a changing the name servers.

The url you entered on blogger.com (if it's available) is the url that you can get. No need to get domains anymore.

It is much better have your own domain. Having said that normally want you want, normally somebody else already have it. So, you have to add a few word infront or back of the the domain name you want. Have it registered with .com or .net or .org is the best way. Find a good keyword that have low competition, high searches and have high value.

Not if you are using Blogger's platform...you would only need to "buy" your domain name if you hosted it yourself, which is really the best idea, since Blogger can remove/edit/shut down blogs they don't necessarily agree with too much...what I heard anyway.
