I recently finished a free course called Clickbank Blogging Video Series. In these videos, the author goes to Clickbank's marketplace, picks out a product he wants to sell and gets the url for that product. He then goes to Namecheap.com and purchases a domain name. While in Namecheap.com, he uses their "URL Forwarding" tool to forward potential future customers from the domain name he bought to the Clickbank products website.
Next, the author goes to Blogger.com, opens a free blog, creates a new and different name for the blog, and lets Blogger.com host the site. He writes a brief article and at the bottom of the posting, he creates a link with the domain name he purchased at Namecheap.com.
Why did the author do this? Why did he buy a domain name that was not used to find his blog, but is only used to forward a potential customer to his Clickbak product? In Blogger.com, he could have created a link to his Clickbank product without having to pay for it. Does anybody know why he did this?

When you are marketing a product, a domain always looks "clearner" than a generic URL, and domains aren't a very expensive investment - only about $10 a year, so I think it is worth it to get one.

Clickbank is an affiliate link. It's like the middle man between the product and the seller. So by purchasing a domain name just cleans up the long affiliate link. You would just forward the new domain name you created to the clickbank link. Here's an example: Say your selling poker chips, so instead of sending your customers to that long clickbank affiliate link, you can send them to your new domain name say, TexasHoldemPokerChips.com
See how much cleaner the link looks and might add looks more professional and like what getagrip states, domain names are cheap.

I did it too I think it helps keep google from looking at your site as if it's a spam site after all you bought your own domain instead of doing it free.
You can then transport it to Wordpress later if the niche is lucrative it belongs to you not G.

I dont think thats the real reason. You can always get a tinyurl link to clean up your affiliate link. I can think of several reasons why he did that. One reason is that first of all i think its a general rule that you shouldnt send customers directly to your affiliate link if you can help it.
The potential customer would like to know how it is working for you who are trying to convince them to signup. They want to see testimonials from other current users, etc.
Now there is a better chance that the visitor will actually follow through with the signup when he gets to your affiliate link because he has already been pumped up, and presold the product by your site. Now he can't wait to signup.

The more i see other wordpress sites the more i wanna get in on that wordpress scene. The sites are so customizable. I really like, so i got one a couple days ago. Im still playing with it, but i got some plans for it.
