Hi Stefanos,

Quote:
My sense is that older and more popular sites will stay there forever, unless you pay a lot of maney for advertising.

It's not forever, but once a site attains a top 3 position, it becomes very difficult for newer sites to dislodge it. Simply because the older site has taken considerable amount of time to attain that status. Sites do not attain top position overnight. My site was launched in early 2002 and I attained a top ranking just recently!

If a site deserves to be in #1 position, then it'll surely attain that place over a period of time. Just ask yourelf whether your site deserves to be in the top place?

Best wishes,

Vishal P. Rao

Thanks Vishal,
That's pretty much what I expected to hear.
I don't have the ambition to be #1 anyway:)
Keep up the good work!

Thanks Melissa! But the bad news is we are no longer no.1. Just after the recent Google update we were hit very hard and so did many other sites that had been ruling the top positions. However, now I'm more determined than before to get my site back.

Regards,

Well, it would be one thing if this were true, but as you recently learned, the truth is, SEO is an illusion. A temporary dance done by website owners chasing the rules completely controlled and arbitrarily implemented by Google. And worst of all, "SEO experts" claiming to have "the answers" chasing money from website owners to make the big score.

Google changes the rules, reshuffles the proverbial deck. Now all the "SEO experts" get to charge website owners more money.

Don't get me wrong. I wish you all the luck in the world to get back to #1. Jump threw as many digital hoops as Google holds out for you. It's important and makes a big difference.

It's a shame that so much power is centralized on a paradigm created to purposefully to be decentralized in the first place (the Internet). And it's completely predictable that corruption would follow.

But that's the "state of the art" and it will remain so as long as the "web" (with all its design flaws) stays the center of the Internet universe.
