when you first started out?

Personally I have told no-one I know at all (apart from my husband). Purely because they would poo-poo the notion, tell me not to be so silly and get a 'proper job'.

So, although I would absolutely love the support of my family, it just ain't gonna happen, and I've decided that once I get my Audi TT Roadster I'll let them in on my "secret"

So did you tell anyone what you were doing or not until you had actually made some money?

xx

Hey Redsadie!

This is a good question because I think that a lot of people think they way that your do. I have been involved in several ventures that have been less than lucrative and for that reason I was a bit gun shy to let the fam in on the new biz. However I did, even before the sales started rolling in and found that it was some serious motivation to make this thing work. I still have a ways to go before I can tell the boss goodbye but the support and feed back from my family is helpful.

Hi RedSadie,

That could easily go either way. It depends upon the nature of the family members.

Some would be quite supportive and some would make you regret it.

It's very much a personal call.

You could compromise by telling them but not letting them know your site addresses. General support might be nice though you may not want them poking around on your sites just yet.

My friends and family know about the site I've had since 1997 and my first four Squidoo sites but nothing else as of yet. I may never tell them about additional sites or maybe I'll let them know about just one once it's doing well.

It depends upon a lot of factors and what you want out of involving them.

Good luck,

Hmmm. Thank you guys, as always

I think I will tell my sister but only say I am trying to make some extra money online. Not let her into a great deal of detail though. I think she will just roll her eyes and think it's another of my 'hairbrained' schemes, lol!

xx

I stopped telling family and friends what I was doing after the first few basically scoffed at the idea. Guess I figured that was how everyone of them would react so why bother.

I can relate to what you are saying. I know for years I was always saying YES!! I found the perfect business and I am going to make lots of money!! I hate to admit it but I have failed and my friends and family were looking at me with that face. "Oh here we go again!" Eventually you decide to keep it on a down low for awhile in fear that this one will fail. In all reality the more people you let know you are open for business as they say, the more sucessful you will be. Food for thought?

Even I was thinking to tell my family members for the same reason that they will ask me to stop it and look for a full time job. But actually they reacted very poitively when i told them. They are all very supportive. So it depends on how your family takes it.

The best way is to earn money and then tell them how you did it.

I am the same... I will totally rub it in their faces when I am making the "Big Bucks" until then... I'm not saying anything! I am finally seeing some success after failing many times and they know I have failed many times, LOL! So this time I am not saying a word, I don't want to jinx it, HEHEHE! And with the buisness I am in now, I am soooo excited because really anyone can do it and succeed and I am thinking that when I do tell them, they will all be wanting in!

Well said. That's what I am going to tell my neighbors and friends when I am there.
