I was talking to Noreen (decker2006) last night about the different options we have for advertising and recruiting for our Coastal businesses. She has a husband who is a superhuman salesman who could sell icecubes to a snowman but she is the more "not so in your face" type so she is for continuing the Yahoo and Google adwords type of marketing. She is going to get her husband to do some calling for her and she mentioned buying some leads. I personally have had no luck with leads and cringe at the thought of having to get on the phone and calling number after number but I also know that there are lots of people who make a GREAT living doing that. Right now I mainly use the free advertising options and google adwords but I want to try some more Classifieds and a couple of other options. Noreen and I were wondering where do you guys buy your leads and which type works best for you or do you use someother kind of advertising method or recruiting methods you would feel comfortable sharing with the group?

Hey Bear,
I walk up my street and start from the first house and bang on my neighbours doors demanding, kicking and screaming they must buy my Travel Packages or else....
If that doesn't work, I recommend the fundraising aspect of it. There are a lot of organizations out there that would benefit on many levels from our package. It's a win-win.

Our group have they own lead support from group leader--for very good monthly cost. FREE!
Also I use splash pages, like makeyourdough.net

I post every weekend on backpage, craigslist, myspace and a few work at home mom sites.
I have a very, very small Google Adwords campaign running while I get used to it--even with my small budget I've gotten leads out of it so for me the ppc has brought the most opt ins to my site.
My next goal is to design a nice looking solo ad to run in publications.
I also ordered bus. cards and flyers from jumpstart coastal (and found out the owner is local to me, one county south). I'm on vacation this week and have been tooling around town posting them up.

Hi--I've also been posting on Craigslist, backpage, and salesspider for free. How has everyone done with google adwords? That may be my next advertsing, along with flyers and handing out my business cards. Still trying to find my niche!

Have you been having luck with those? I have not. Just wondering if it a matter of time and just keep at it with the free advertising. I have been having luck with adwords and yahoo. I have a bunch of optins. For some of my opt ins, my back office shows this very long promo code that I have no idea where it came from. I would love to know because it seems to be working! Any ideas form on where these promo codes come from? I know how to set my promo codes so that is not it.

You guys, I have to reflect for a moment. It's so COOL to see that EVERY person except one who has posted in this thread is a personal signup of mine. That's a true testimony to Coastal and the call center. The even cooler thing is that we are trying to help eachother with our businesses.
Noreen, I would email Greg at the call center and ask him about that code you are seeing.

Noreen---I have had a couple opt ins from the free ads in 3 weeks, and I'll keep on doing them. It doesn't take much time and I have the time, so if I get one sale it will be worth it. But I think I will start looking into the adwords.

For me, adwords is the quickest way to get optins to your site. Yes, it can be expensive and you might get more leads for the money if you buy leads from a lead company but chances are you won't be getting targeted leads like you will with adwords simply because you will be weeding out people who aren't interested in Coastal all together. Only people who type in the search terms you specifiy will see your ad. That is how they can be so targeted.

Hi all,
I was doing the lead thing, getting leads from Responsive Data, and have had not bad luck with them, pretty costly though....I just printed some flyers and am going to try those....and am going to start some classifieds...I'll let you know how they go.
I was doing the free ad thing for a while, but wasn't getting any response, and because my time is not free, I stopped....Hope you all have better luck!

I am not sure how you guys are distributing the flyers. But an idea that I have is to just drop one off in each mailbox in your neighbourhood. It might take some time, but if you design your flyer well and spark some curiosity in the person. They will check out your website and opt in to find out what Coastal is all about. Then you can follow up with them with a simple hello and just answer any questions they might have. From there you can determine if they are serious about Coastal or just tire kickers.

I think it's against the law to use someone's mailbox without actually mailing it to them. I think that would be kinda like spam. I know several times a year I will be at walmart and some church youth group will put a flyer about a carwash they are doing or some other fundraiser on my car so that might be an option but I would call your local postoffice and ask them before putting a bunch of flyers in peoples mailbox unless you know them VERY WELL and you know they will get the flyer out before their mail is delivered the next day.

Putting flyers in mailboxes is illegal---Years ago I did this and got a call from the post office! You can put them in newspaper boxes if the neighborhoods have them.

That's good to know Harold. Yeah I didn't know about the legalities. Like I said it was just an idea, not sure how feasible it might be.
I guess one way to get around that would be to contact your local flyer company. I remember one of my friends used to prepare and deliver flyers back in the day. Maybe you could contact your local flyer company and see how much they charge and how they could get your flyers out.

Nothing wrong with door hangers, though - and they have pre-cut versions that can be bought at specialty paper stores and printed on your home PC with the information you want to advertise.
I'm actually in the process of designing some right now.

Isn't that wierd. You can hang door hangers all day long but if you stop at their mailbox you can get locked up. Go figure. I guess it's because they don't want you messing with their other mail, huh?

Well, the mail is federally protected and your mailbox (if I understand correctly) is considered the property of the U.S. Government until you actually pick up the mail. So, I guess it makes sense...
