Sovereign, You are right on the money. For any online business to succeed, you need to generate a list, which are essentially your leads (prospective customers) which will buy your products. This of course it all hinges around traffic to your site. What's your take on generating traffic?

Tony Graddon: Sovereign, You are right on the money. For any online business to succeed, you need to generate a list, which are essentially your leads (prospective customers) which will buy your products. This of course it all hinges around traffic to your site. What's your take on generating traffic? Tony,
Thanks for the post.
My take on traffic generation is to create an environment where my traffic wants to buy from me instead of me having to sell them on anything.
Lets say we are selling the Super Widget Cleaner 2000. Instead of directing traffic to a website that sells the Super Widget Cleaner 2000, We will advertise what Frank Kern calls, a lead-generation magnet.
Here are a couple examples:
"Free report: Top 10 Ways to Clean More Widgets! Click Here for Instant Delivery." "Free report Reveals Insider Secrets to Hassle-free Widget Cleaning. Download now!"
Now the people who request this info join our auto-responder(list) in return for the free report, and we now have have targeted traffic who have already expressed interest in what we are selling.
Experts say it takes the average buyer an average of 7 visits to a website before they make a purchase.
We will load our auto-responder with several follow-up messages, each with good, valuable content and each making a small recommendation for the Super Widget Cleaner 2000.
By now the people on our list will see us trusted advisers or experts on our subject instead of salesmen and buy purely on our recommendations.
The key however is to provide solid, valuable content that relates to what we are selling.

I learned the hard way and with experinece that relationships is where the money is made, and giving incredible value to a person.
Sure, it's great to have financial goals, but your focus should be on giving as much value as you can, and delivering it to the masses in a nice package.
I've had GREAT success with that model.
GIVE GIVE GIVE...and accept money as their payment to you for being so generous.

Very good information and I thank you for sharing!
I would also say that I am amazed that people would actually blow the kind of money you referred to above trying to start an online business from home. It boggles my mind!!! $27.00 ebook, $29.00 per month, $759.00 seminar, $4,595.00 personal coach. You have got to be kidding me! I started mine for $10.00 and I would bet money that everything those "big dogs" are teaching could be found for free right here on this site, LOL!

Here is another secret. They not only have a large list and make great money but they also go into other niches and make even more money.
That is the main reason why a lot of affiliates from all over the world are making tons and tons of money online. They get into one niche, build it, put in on auto-pilot, drive traffic from free and paid sources, and then they repeat the process over and over again.

Your article is great. You have not only discussed how to monetize a site but also what not to do in marketing.
I would like to expound on the multiple income streams idea. Many people build many websites to promote their products. As clearly shown here, you need not have many websites to promote four income streams.
Having a well designed 100 page website is enough. It allows you to host many products and advertise them from a single point. This not only saves registration and hosting fees, but also increases efficiency of marketing.
Administration for a website such as the one mentioned can also be done by a single person. You save money that can be used to improve the business.

MarketLifelines: Having a well designed 100 page website is enough. It allows you to host many products and advertise them from a single point. This not only saves registration and hosting fees, but also increases efficiency of marketing. Hi and thanks for the reply,
I would only partially agree with this statement.
These big websites(100+pages) can work well if they are concidered authority sites.
If not, then you run into the problem of low search engine rankings for each different page/product/keyword you may use.
It is much easier to get those initial, higher rankings, and all the free traffic that goes along with it, by having one single, more specific, niche/product per site.
Does this cost more?
Only the cost of a domain name, $8.
Your hosting plan should allow for unlimited domains anyway.
So spend the extra $8 up front and enjoy easier, higher search engine rankings and much, MUCH more free traffic, and sales/commissions.
Mike
