Hey Everybody!
I'm new to the game, but from what I can see, if you post an RSS feed on your site from a site that has new content updated frequently, it counts as new content on your site and Google with recognize that and crawl it.
Is this correct or am I dreaming?
I read somewhere that as long a you don't use Java Script to implement the feed in your HTML, it will work.
I look forward to hearing what you all have say about this.

No, as far as I'm aware, you'll be Google-slapped for having duplicate content on your site. Search engines are becoming increasingly strict about this, because obviously they want to provide the most useful search results to web surfers, and duplicate content is really frustrating from the customer's point of view.
I know for a fact that Google at least will not display duplicate content in search results, so either YOUR site will be displayed, or the site with the original content. Most likely it'll be the original site.
More and more, Google is rewarding uniqueness and originality, which is why a lot of the old affiliate marketing models have fallen by the wayside. No longer can we just put up a quick and easy affiliate site with content stolen from someone else's site...

Hi Philip,
You are right about the Java Script part - it will not count as fresh updated content.
Homeboy is correct as well - you won't get credit as the original author if you port info from another site to your own. It won't get indexed.
If you go overboard - especially if you aren't adding new, unique content of your own, your site may get a spam flag and you may be penalized by Google.
It's interesting in theory - it's a good read - but it's better to spend your time creating unique, valuable content from scratch.

Thank you Homeboy and Newbie Shield for your input on the subject. I'll take both of your advices into consideration.
I just have one other question then, particularly for Newbie Shield regarding your statement,

Wouldn't this be the same as having articles written by others and posted on many site as well as your own?
Does Google penalize sites that have too many articles that have posted on other sites?

Yes.

Not unless the ratio of piped or copy/pasted stuff is "too" high.
You can port and reprint articles, just don't get carried away or expect them to be indexed when you do.
Folks have been trying to rank for the work of others for years and Google is well aware of this and knows when it happens.
It's okay to have a section of "Latest News" on your site for porting. Many do this without penalty. It's a matter of degree.
Go check out YouTube to see what you can find for details. Obviously you'll want to take everything you see with a grain of salt and consider the validity of the source.
