Does Page Rank Really Matter?

I just started a new website about a month ago and I was surprised to look today and see that it has a page rank of 3. I barely get any traffic, but it's got a page rank.

It took me about a year or more to get a page rank of 3 for my other sites (I've learned a little since then). But does the page rank really matter?

I would be impressed if I was receiving a bunch of traffic, but I'm not.

I'm curious to know your thoughts, opinions, findings on page rank.

The problem, I think, with page rank is that Google changes their ranking algorithm all the time, so I personally don't worry too much about it.

I'm a lot more concerned with getting targeted links back from other websites in a related niche. That usually gets me a lot more valuable traffic than anything from Google (not that I'm ungrateful for what Google sends me, of course, lol...)

Traffic is far more important IMO.

Agreed. Page rank really isn't that important. Even with a great page rank you have to be conducting your own strategies for building traffic. And if you knkow how to build traffic, and are getting traffic, then who cares if your page rank is 0 or 3?

I agree that page rank is not all that important.

I believe it is more important to get backlinks from articles, blogs, forums and social book marking.

home page would be alot better.your site. its will depend on the demand of that keyword if its low in demand then you will not get any traffic if high then you will get it.

Page Rank (PR) isn't as important as the hype. Same thing is true with url addy name. Both are helping factors but neither is any where near as important as the so-called gurus profess.

Even so, PR does have its benefits. Certain groups require X PR or above to become a member. This is true with various blog networks and web rings. PR is good for branding. Everything else equal, I trust a higher PR site. PR can be a sign of longevity and number of link backs among other things. The more legitimate and trustworthy sites tend to have a higher PR.

PR will not create more traffic. Though they say that PR helps with SERPs rankings, I have yet to see any evidence of this. I'm not saying it isn't true. I've seen many examples of sites with low or zero PR outrank sites with a slightly higher or even a medium PR.

A higher PR helps but it isn't a major factor. I don't even see it as a medium factor for the most part. Work towards improving your PR but don't lose any sleep over it. It's just a little extra icing on the web cake.

I agree with all of the above comments regarding PR importance. It's nice if you can get it, but it isn't a huge issue.

I 'trust' a higher PR more, too, but only because I'm a marketer myself now. Before that, I didn't know or care about a site's PR. I think the average visitor (unless they are internet marketers) wouldn't know what your PR is. They are going to be looking at your site with a different perspective.

They want something that looks and sounds professional and provides the answers they are seeking.

Whether PR affects your traffic? I don't think so, based on my own sites' stats.

Sometimes yes, page rank is important. Your ranking in google, yahoo and indexing by google all depends on page rank. But this is not the only criteria.

Page rank doesn't have nothing to get targeted traffic to your site but it can be powerful when you want get backlink from authority site. They usually doesn't exachange links with low PR sites. How and when google do rank a site it's atill unclear for me.

Thats why i dont do Adwords.. It doesnt matter if your at the top. It depends on your title and if anyone is searching your keywords.

I prefer to get my videos within the search engine first page because it takes less time and people are not really intrested in reading text anymore..

My videos get page one in a few hours.. much quick that websites

Social bookmarking tends to bring only short-term flash-in-the-pan traffic that disappears as quickly as it arrives. Building solid backlinks in related niche sites will make the traffic much more targeted. I'd personally concentrate more on that.

With respect, this is bad thinking. The problem is not with adwords, the problem is that your campaign is not tweaked enough. Your search terms are probably too broad, so your ad would be showing up in searches that are not all that relevant, hence the poor CTR and poor ROI. Focus on one key word phrase that you know people will search for when they are looking to specifically buy something, not just browse for info.

its a big risk for beginners though i must say. most businesses just say put some adwords up and boom your going to make money.

Id rather get organic traffic through video. Drive traffic from social media sites. I must say it takes longer but I dont have to spend money and people get to know who I am which makes my leads HIGHLY TARGETED because there interested in me not my business.

My new site , my first website surprised me with a PR of 3 since day one!
This was 2 months ago..
I looked at it last week and I have no PR at all.
There have been a few images changes, and sub headings added...only minor changes.
Does anyone understand this?
Thank you,
Victoria

Page rank will not do anything to get traffic.

Ok, now that I can agree with.

There's some great advice on Stompernet about tweaking adwords, if anyone's interested. I can't find the link right now though, it's buried somewhere in my 1000s of daily marketing emails, lol. (I swear, I spend more time with email than actual marketing, lol....I really should know better.... *sigh* )

Well, that's debatable, but personally it's nothing I'm gonna get my panties in a knot about.

Before i knew anything about internet marketing i knew nothing about all this page rank business, so in my opinion it isn't going to affect sales at all.

As for getting traffic well it isn't going to increase traffic directly but like others have said it is seen as an advantage when linking to other sites.

if you want my opinion, i feel there are plenty of better things to be concentrating
