I'm interested in transcription work. I don't know if I need to take a course for legal and medical transcription. It seems like all the companies are seeking only experienced transcriptionists. I really don't have any experience, but I do have exceptional grammar and vocabulary skills. I work well in word and excel. I don't know exactly how fast I type, but I know that I type quickly. I have experience as a linguist with transcribing (in Chinese if you can believe that!), but I don't know how to go about applying these skills to a work-from-home transcription job so that I can stay at home with my new little one and not have to go back to work as soon.
I appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I know legal transcriptionists who got work without special schooling. General transcription doesn't require special schooling.
Medical transcription, which I've been doing at home for 11 years, does require schooling.
