If you have an interest in some topic or a hobby, you can publish information related to that interest or hobby on a website. You then include contextual advertising on each page (like google adsense) and you get paid each time someone clicks on an ad. There is no maintenance to this since the ads are automatically generated and updated. You just keep adding pages to your site and sections to your site when you have the time to do so. If your site becomes popular enough, you can even add a blog or forum (although these require a bit more maintenance). If applicable, you can add on a shopping section with affiliate links (this requires periodic maintenance). Publishing this way can generate a few hundred dollars a month or over $1000 per month, depending on how popular your site becomes. It's a bit of work, but it's kind of fun since you are writing about things you have an interest in. It makes for a nice side income.

Very nice post. What Mike has said is all true. You can start off with a one page website, and add content to it, and it can eventually take off - all the while earning you an income. So what is holding you back? Get started, and watch the big bucks roll in a year or two down the line...

In recent months, it has become very difficult to make money with contextual advertising.

Hmmm. My advertising income has gone up in recent months, not down. (I thank the Lord for that!)

You do need to add regular fresh content, though.

I have new websites which I update regularly , but CPM is less than 1 . I don't bother much with contextual advertising, there are better ways to make money online.

I have a number of blogs now, mostly about my hobbies and I use contextual ads on them all. It's a great way to earn and all I have to do is continue to love my hobbies and keep on sharing through those blogs.

I do quite a bit of text link ads as well. Actually most of my income comes from that.
