Hi, I'm EcommGuy & I'm new to this forum. It looks like a great resource!
I have a new website-http://www.extracashclix.com. I have a miniscule budget to promote it with so I've been using free classifieds & free search engine submissions. The problem I've been having with the search engines, as you might have guessed, is that with no link exchange work done yet I have no real position. So no one can get to me w'out already knowing my URL. Obviously, my ongoing and long term goal is to build those links for good position.
I have spent some money on classified advertising at Clickit.com only because last time I tried to market a website(mirror site) my ads there were the only ones that produced encouraging results.
So my main question is in 3 parts:
- What is the best free classified advertising I can find?
- What are the free search engines I can sign up with?
- More to the point, what is the best free advertising of any kind I can utilize?
I know I will have to spend some money eventually & I'm willing to. In fact I already have. But you can't spend money you don't have for very long before it catches up to you!
Any advice anyone can give on free ways to build real, substantial qualified traffic would be greatly appreciated!

there is a forum dedicated to site promotion, try there.
FYI search engine submission is fairly pointless these days. If you have a site worthy of being listed, google will list it.

For free classifieds, try craigslist. It is useful for ranking in search engines

Write some articles to drive some traffic to your website. Create a blog. Make some forum posts and link to your website via your signature. These are all free ways to get traffic to your website.

As said above, create a blog (preferably wordpress) and make some useful posts about your niche with good keyword density and make a link to your main site and you can see getting free traffic from search engines..

One thing that really works is just promoting YOU, not your business per say. Press releases are a great way to get free traffic, too. Don't be afraid to get creative!

Yes Pay Someone To write some articles for You. I here this i great way to get traffic to your website.You will still be getting traffic from the articles for months and years to come.You can also try joining other forums and setting up your signature tag to get traffic that way too.

as mentioned above create a blog. You can create one for free on blogger.com and wordpress as blogs get indexed faster than websites and you can tag link to other sites.

Well, I'm sure we can all attest to that in some manner.
All the methods described in this discussion so far are really good techniques to help increase your search engine ranking! The key is being relentless in these methods.
Taking a couple hours on a daily basis to market your website with proven methods is what will produce results. And it's all about being consistent with your efforts and not just doing it "here and there." But treating it like a job.
Also, If you really feel that your Biz Opp will benefit others, then don't be afraid to verbally tell people about it. Yes, word of mouth! I know it sounds like caveman-like tactics but the reality is it's still a proven method to create a buzz off the Internet also. And hey it's free.
But if you're really concerned about driving traffic to your sites and increasing your search engine ranking on a limited budget or for free, then linking is what you really should be concentrating on. As some have suggested in this discussion different ways to do that.
Keep in mind that all linking really is, is networking! So building business relationships on and off the net to promote your website is something we all should constantly be working on. And those relationships can lead to some very good free advertising opportunities.
A 100% free advertising campaign will always be a failure. Like using only free online classifieds as your only method to get the word out. It's almost impossible to have a great conversion rate with this kind of thinking. The problem is not that your product isn't good or no one likes it. But most likely due to the fact that it's a bunch of resellers trying to sell stuff to each other through free advertising.
But when you incorporate proven paid methods with free methods, and mix the two really well, you improve your chances of success greatly!

The best, most effective way to create FREE traffic is Article marketing. It will take time but you will generate traffic, search engine rankings and credibility especially if you are promoting a less competitive niche.

I reccomend writing one article a day and submitting it to article directories. You can also go to work at home forums just like this one and help out people just like you. Others will see that you don't mind giving advise and they will visit your website.
Articles are the best though. Make sure they are keyword rich.

Write a 'long tail keyword' optimised article and submit it to Ezine Articles. If you do it correctly and have picked the right keyword phrase, the article will get listed highly in the SERPS and get you the best, most targeted traffic.

If you can be consistent in writing your articles and submitting them to different article directories after a while you will start to get a web presence. Set a goal 1/day, 3/week what every it is just be consistent! Linking is also a good free tool to use.
I also use a funded proposal to pay for my advertizing of my primary business. Most funded proposal programs are highly duplicatible and inexpensive.

Let me say this when doing articles and bloggin, forum posting it's for long term so months later you will be getting alot of traffic if done right as far as getting quick results that would be solo ezine ads, PPC, press release.

Having your own blog on your own domain - update it often, make it interesting and you will get surprizing traffic.
