It's gotta be something you are passionate about or have a personal testimony on... if you can not belive in your product it will not work for you, regardless what kind of comp plan, timing, stability or anything else.

That's my take on it.

I completely agree. Different MLMs for different people. The biggest thing to look for is a product that you LOVE.

Once you find that make sure the company has management and stability because you won't want to up and lose the residual income that you earned over time when the company shuts down.

The payplan doesn't matter quite as much. I personally like companies that offer some sort of "fast start" pay so I can see some initial earnings. That always motivates me.

I also like companies that are free/inexpensive to keep going. Why
pay $300+ to get started and $150+ monthly in stuff you don't really need?

One other thing I like is a company that only has 3 or 4 products. It's easy to learn your product line and not get sidetracked with all of the different things the company has.

With companies that have a wide product line it's not much fun trying to buy the ones you want as well as the ones with "high pv" so you get your check that month.

Companies with 3 or 4 products statistically have higher growth than companies with a wide product line. Go figure.

Good luck with your search,

Matthew Zenittini

I've been involved in several companies and I think that your leadership and mentor are the most important thing. There was one ocassion where my upline scolded me and others because I had my own update call with my own little team after coming back from a conference. She even yelled at one of my team members and made her cry....unbelievable. Another time, I was told to just do a three way call, put myself on mute and let the leader talk to my prospect. I gained no credibility in front of my prospect, who was also a friend. I was told I did not know enough yet and should rely on the experience of my upline. I could go on - but it only gives our industry a bad name. Needless to say, I kept looking for a good mentor in another company.

I am so happy to have found a good mentor now. I am told that I should choose a method of marketing that I am comfortable with and that suits me. I'm given training and encouraged to step out with what I want to do and what I think is best for my personality. No canned scripts! I'm treated like a professional and a grown up woman. Wow - what a concept! I actually interviewed several people in this company before I chose someone I wanted to work for. So that would be my advice. Take your time not only to look at the company, but search out who else is involved as a leader. Talk to them, see if they answer your calls in a timely manner. Are they so busy they make excuses as to why they can't get back to you? Is the information and training "real" and does it have "substance," or are they just trying to push you to a Thursday night meeting?

Take care and have an awesome day!

Good management is of course essential for any company to be successful. But most of the time the average rep want have any knowledge of the quality of the management so you have to trust that
that is going to work itself out.

That being said, nothing can beat timing with something unique to the networking industry that is going to be a magnet for other business opportunity seekers.

Those that have seize timing and uniqueness are very often the ones you hear about that make millions with the company.

I think Margaret hit the nail on the head. It's about having the right supporting cast. If you don't have a strong team that will teach you what to do with an easy system to understand and replicate - then you will fail.

Our team works 2x2. Your only goal is to find two people to join your business. This builds your left and right leg. Once you do that, you work 24-7 to help those two find their two. While you help them find their two, you train them on how to teach others to find their two. Using this method, the first person will have $32,700 after the 12th month provided everyone can get their two. Which with my product isn't that hard.

Of course in that sense you are just after the money...

Why not promote a product you love instead of pitching a business to friends and family?

If you love the product and have a knowledgeable upline.. the rest will follow.

Don't get sucked into a product you were never interested in in the first place just to make money..

Find a product you love then find a business to suit it.

You can get training anywhere to grow your MLM.. A good upline is not necessary but helpful.

From personal experience...

Please don't join a business..

Find a product that you love and truly want. Then find the business to suit.

Just keeping YOU and not my pockets in mind,

Matthew Zenittini

Long ago, I studies the QuickStar (Amway) material.

I just could not "get into" selling soap though.

Know what I mean?

Good question,

In my years of experience in traditional as well as online businesses, the above are important, but in a recession, the one thing I focus on first is will I save real verifiable money from first month on. If I cannot save money, then no one else will, and if this is the case, then you are spinning your wheels in a recession this severe.

Certainly, management is always important, just as timing is, but when it comes to product, if you are trying to sell a no name MLM product, you are going to be pushing that rock up hill from start to finish, and how many people can do that? Simply put, if you would not be a customer of your product or service without the opportunity, forget about it, most will fail.

Timing is indeed important, but what I have found over the years is what is hot now may not be tomorrow, so you have to look for a business which can not only survive a recession, but thrive right through it, and given this is going to be a long one, choosing the right product which everyone already uses is the best way to go.

Everyone eats, always have, everyone wants to save money, more now than ever, so the product is the number one consumable, so the timing is perfect as people are struggling financially and unemployment over 10%. But the number one reason I see this as being the most important is the fact it does not rely on hyping the income opportunity, it saves everyone money, and when people are saving money, time and hassles in their lives, they will freely share and tell others, so no selling is most important aspect to me.

Bottom line, ask yourself if you are actually saving money in the very first month purchasing your companies products? If yes, then you have chosen one of the few good ones, very few I might ad since I research them all. Simply put, if you wouldn't be a customer of your company without the income opportunity, how can expect anyone else to be a customer?

Another important point is how much time it takes to duplicate your efforts through product and compensation training. Most people cannot sell anything they cannot qualify immediately, so how many MLM products produce instant results? How many people can explain the nutritional benefits to everyone or how a weight loss product is different or better? How many people know what Kellogg's, Post, Campbells Soup, Tide, Bumble Bee, Dial Soap, Windex and Jif Peanut Butter are? No need to have to train someone, it is all about price, and if you can show up to a 50% savings, plus the convenience factor, this makes duplication easy, and when you can duplicate yourself, then the true benefit of MLM, leverage works in your favor.

Success to all,

That's the only problem I have with "selling" or "buying" those types of products...

It's more convenient for me to buy them at the grocery store. I also like walking around and looking at the different things there and choosing what I want.

Plus shopping online will not eliminate the need to go to the grocery store...

So isn't it more work and less convenient?

#1: The economy is helping MLM not hurting it. In the past year alone the rate at which people are looking for a work at home business has DOUBLED. All the while the economy has gotten worse.

#2: People don't have money to WASTE on something that is not going to benefit them.

So I see where you are coming form in a sense that they are already spending and can save... But in my mind it is beneficial to jump on the RAPIDLY growing health and wellness industry while people still can.

People more than ever are looking for a way to get healthy, live longer, feel better... They are also more than ever looking for a BUSINESS.

This industry is absolutely the best to be involved with.

Find a LOW ticket item to cater to these flocks of people and watch your business BOOM.

Good Luck,

Matthew Zenittini

Well I have to say, I am amazed, for you are the first one who has said it is more convenient to go to a local grocery store than having it delivered to their door, especially the heavy items like canned, jars, detergents, cleaners, and such, so I guess you don't have far to drive and no winter snow storms to deal with.

There is no business which is going to appeal to everyone, but I bet if we both walked up to a stranger with our products and prices, I would get 95% interested in saving money and time in their lives. So what do you think your percentage would be? You don't have to answer that, I already know, and that is the point, it is all about the numbers, the percentages, and since everyone eats, while not everyone takes nutritional products, who will make more money at the end of the year presenting our products to the same amount of consumers.

Another point, I don't have to convince my consumer to buy an unknown product with unknown ingredients. I am offering savings on the same ten thousand plus items they are purchasing already, nothing to hype up, we have the same Kellogg's, Post, Campbell Soup, Tide, Bounty, whatever, nothing else needs to be said other than, how would you like to save upt to 50% on these repeat purchase items delivered to your door for free by FedEx.

We do not say you don't have to go shopping, we are saying you can be in and out in 20 minutes instead of the 2 hours most spend shopping on a weekend. If you like shopping, great, you are not being deprived of this enjoyment, you still shop for meat, dairy and fresh produce, and aren't these the only items you really need to see? A box of Kellogg's is a box of Kellogg's, and our items are fresher coming from manufacturers direct, most of my products wer 2012 exp. dates, not the case at local stores in many cases.

As to your #1 example, I somewhat agree, yes, the recession is creating the need for more to look for part time home businesses, but at the same time, these same consumers do what first, they look to save money, not look for a part time job. Yes, more people are who lost their jobs, so when you can show someone how to save money and make money in one sentence, I would say the odds of success are assured, whereby selling these same consumers a health product for $XXX amount a month would not be the first decision they make.

Simply put, what would you choose to purchase if you were down to your last $40.00 for the month, food or nutritional products? Nothing wrong with nutritional products, but fact is fact, people on limited incomes will always choose eating over all else, even rent or car payments, so the economy does favor groceries over all else as I have seen.

As to #2, I couldn't agree more, and what benefits them most is food in the frige and pantry to feed their families. It is all about priorities, and healthy organic food would be my choice everytime over paying extra for nutritional supplements.

So I guess we just have to agree to disagree on some points, but personally, if I am saving over $200. the very first month never mind saving the time and gas money, imagine what it will total when commissions are factored into total equation which I don't even have to mention to my prospects. It is all about getting back to basics in MLM, and saving money has never been part of the package with MLM industry, never.

Success to all,

Thanks for your extremely kind reply =].

I do not need to defend my product.... Or my business... In fact.. It grows every month whether I work or not..

Do you feel a need to?

On another note...

I am truly extremely happy that you have found a business that works for you. Everyone needs to find that business for them and products they love.

That is why there are so many people with different types of successful businesses.

Best of luck,

Matt

Greetings,

The topic of this thread is discussing critical factors in choosing an MLM company, so I don't need to defend mine either, it is just to enlighten others who are drawn to a discussion of what to look for in a business, and again, everyone has different views, and expressing them is going to help others, from your perspective, as well from mine. Good luck to you as well.

Success to all,

If you can find a product that you love and a company that has a great comp plan, then go with that. You also have got to believe that you will succeed and commit to it no matter what.

It is so easy to get excited about a product, the program, your financial future, the compensation plan, and other things when you get started. Everyone is. If you can stay excited months into the program and just stay persistent and consistent then you will do well.

3 or 4 months into a program, you can get discouraged in many factors. You are not making the money that you were hoping to make. It happened to me and I am sure many others too. You can get discouraged if you are losing money and are not making money.

You will for sure have many discouraging moments along the way but if you can just keep going and going and going, then you will succeed.

Tal

I believe when choosing an MLM you should look at a few things.

1) Is it legal and not a pyramid scheme

2) How solid is the company and it is hard to predict but will they be around in a few years. Hate to build a downline and start making money and then the company folds.

3) Are the products superior and effective. Prices are generally higher so the quality has to be good or people will not continue to purchase.

4) Is there a good support and marketing system to follow to be succesful.

Just a few of my thoughts.

Mark
