I HATE Calling Leads, But It's ALL I do.. Why?

So I have been calling SO many leads over the past few months and wanted to share with you guys.

First I started out calling cheap leads, they are pretty good ones though. They are like $53 and I was getting 600 aged 7-30 day old leads and 60 semi exclusive real time leads.

I would throw the 600 leads into phone burner and knock them out as fast as possible and turn the 60 leads on and call them when they came in.

The script I used with people is under 2 minutes long and tells them NOTHING about the company I am working with. All it does it peak their interest so they will take an application I have online.

Also, there is a reason I'm telling you all of this and I will get to it .

From there after converting 660 leads into x amount of applications.. Maybe 10 applications?.. I call back my applicants and invite them to a webinar. All applicants are pre-qualified on the phone, and completely qualified in the application.

So at this point, my applicants have little to no idea who we are, what we do, or how we get paid. They just know we get paid. BUT it works.

Once I saw it working I started buying a more expensive lead. The lead is called a real time phone interviewed lead. These leads have been called by a call center and prequalified FOR me. This makes it so I am just calling back people that are already interested in what I have to offer, and almost eliminates rejection. I also get WAY more recruits for the amount of time I work because of this.

Now that I told you the short version of my last few months. If you are not currently having success here is what you need to think about.

What actions am I doing each day that put $$ in my pocket?

I'll give you a hint. You should be talking to people on the phone. It also makes your business more "real".

Do I have a website I can send people to, that brands me as the expert, and lets me keep posture in the conversation?

When you are talking to a prospect on the phone.. You need to have something outlined that you do with every prospect. And it needs to lead them through the steps.

What really helped me here was just putting myself in the prospect's shoes. What did I want to know when someone called me?

Which brings me to my next point.

What is important to the prospect you are calling?
I'll give you a hint.. It's not your payplan.. OR your product.. OR if you are making lots of money even. So why do prospects always ask us what we are "pitching" them, or how much do we make, or what are we selling? Because you are not keeping posture and controlling the conversation. If they are asking those questions, you need to regain control FAST. If they are a bad prospect, on to the next.

What the prospect really cares about is what can YOU do for THEM. How do you benefit THEM. People are all about themselves. When I wrote out the script my team uses I put lots of thought into this, and you should too. Write out on paper.. Develop a plan to where you can call someone and not talk about anything but them. At the same time, hold the posture, and let them know how you can help them without trying to oversell it.

I know this seems confusing and sounds tricky. Feel free to do it how I do it. I use an application.

When you tell someone :

"Hey Mr./Mrs./Ms. X, what we do next is have all of our aspiring team members take a short 10 question application. This allows me to see almost everything I need to know about you to make an informed decision on whether or not I choose to bring you on board. The reason I screen my members is because I put lots of time and resources into each new team member. Make Sense?"

What do you think that does?

It brands you as the expert for sure. It's a very postured statement. You are telling them "look, I don't need you, if you want MY help and MY time, show me you want it."

You don't need someone wasting your time. This is a serious business. Treat it like one.

The final thing I did, which I used to be LARGELY against. Is make it so my team members could plug into what I am doing. Which if you are looking to build a huge team, you will need to do.

The reason I was against it is because I thought every member should be helped to their own specific needs to grow a business.

However, when I threw this into effect, I noticed it was easier for people to follow. Even if someone doesn't like making cold calls, it's not difficult to follow a script so anyone can do it. AND this is a business to make money. Sometimes a few minutes of awkwardness per day for someone might be worth it to them for the financial benefits.

Since I have been doing things this way, my team has seen lots more success and my members happier than ever .

Do yourself a favor and really look at your business plan. If you don't have one, then you don't really have a business.

If every year on January 1st.. You got to go meet a friend and collect $100,000..

BUT you only got the $100,000 if you picked up the phone and made cold calls throughout the year..

Would you do it?

The difference between those that may have success, those that have mediocre success, and those that are able to maximize their success comes down to picking up the phone.

I recent did similar, and have laid out a 3 step process for my team members to take a prospect from Hi to Presentation to Sign up. Direct response marketing it is. Do an action today, get results the same day.

Have a plan to make success happen is where most fail in their home business. You can't just join a business opportunity you've got to have the plan that you will apply to work thru the "number's game" and bring home the "bacon"

No wonder you're successful Matt. I know enough about calling leads to know that you have a good system there. Almost makes me wish I had found you before I did all the other mlm stuff. But now I am busy enough with what I do that it doesn't tempt me quite as much.

To anyone looking for something in that line, I would recommend jumping on board with someone like Matt who has a proven plan in place. It sure beats the heck out of trying to come with your own plan! The reason I quit mlm was for that exact reason - the company I was with, lost their solid training and support system and without that I was lost....

Coming up with your own plan is definitely not easy! However, to anyone that is not looking and has already found a home. If you want to see more out of your business, implementing something like this really can help out your downline.

If you found me then I wouldn't have been anywhere close to having something like I do now. (depending on when you started I might have still been a slaving car salesmen and not even known what MLM was!) I've done lots of growing as a leader for my team and I still have PLENTY further to go.

I may have seen some success, but I spend as much time learning as I can. I heard about another member in my company (not on my team) come in and started doing well. A nice older lady sponsored 7 platinums in 2 months that she didn't know.

So I picked up the phone and called her and asked her what she was doing.

No matter how successful anyone becomes, they should always continue to learn and grow .

I know you are SUPER successful with affiliate marketing. I never saw much success with that business model because I hate writing and never really applied myself . If I ever had someone looking to learn the business though, I would definitely send them your way!

Matt, thank you for sharing this information with us. I have always been against hiding what I am offering people. But the way you said it has given me another way to look at this.

I have always been upfront with people; due to I do not want people to feel that I am hiding anything from them. But what I been finding out that you shared, is that people start to take control of me by saying to me "What do I get out of this?".

I will always be about the product first, no matter what people say. But maybe I need to look at sharing my product in other ways.

I have yet posted a topic on here that I want to talk about. I will say this, it has something to do with what Matt said about people on here. Stay tuned for this topic.

Good post Matt. Fear of the phone costs people more money than anything else I see in the industry. Those kinds of stats (10 aps out of 600 leads) would freak a lot of people out. Glad to see you sticking to it and having success with it.

You don't have to call leads to make great MLM money on the web.

I've done this before, and I made far less money than when I got on the phone. Conversion rates are night/day different. If all it took was sending prospects to websites, MLM companies wouldn't need distributors - they'd just need websites and traffic.

So many gurus promise easy duplication with automated websites and such but all they do is get the gurus rich. Lets face it network marketing is sales. And sales is a people to people business. Most hate phone work but those that excel at it make the most money in a traditional network marketing model. Yes having systems helps convey the message but knowing a business is real and support is available is what most people are looking for.

Just one thing I would change.

Network marketing is not sales. If you sell people into your organization you will fail. You are simply collection decisions. You can't help someone that doesn't want it.

I do think that using the phone regardless of what anyone says is a necessity in this business.

If you really want to make money with network marketing, this is how it's done.

Great posts everyone!! I recently am dipping back into my online business and have never had to "buy" leads to drive more traffic to my sites. I am considering doing a test run with getting some quality leads that pertain to my niche.

Any suggestions of lead generators with systems in tact that track these leads? Preferrably a system you currently use and are seeing results in case of questions down the road come up they can be asked!! Thanks in advance.

Well networking is selling yourself first of all. Most people do not have the confidence in themselves like you or I do to succeed. It helps to market a product though that has built in demand. Something that people actually buy without an opportunity attached to it. All of life is a sale. You sell yourself to your wife or husband, you sell yourself to an employer. To sugar coat it and say it is just collecting a decision is a bit naive. I though do applaud your tenacity. Phone burners are great tools for those that use them right. Soon once you build a big enough team you can then outsource that to a telemarketer ( you would be shocked how many resumes you get when you post an 11 dollar an hour telemarketer position) You can then hire a couple and give shares to your team members. But nothing beats having them learn how to do it themselves.
