This is the question I was going to ask Mike. Perhaps some of you savvy marketers can help me.
I have been working through the Projects Series - Finding unexplored niches for quite a few subjects. The numbers all look good until I get to adwords test. I think there are many more people using adwords than six months ago.
Here is an example that I do not understand.
kentucky longrifle 5,090 0
longrifle 30,600 0
kentucky flintlock rifle 6,390 0
pennsylvania long rifle 127,000 0
american longrifle 12,600 0
I know the numbers are low. I just wanted to see where this lead. I do not understand why, when the searches show no "sponsored ads" why do the keywords require 30 to 50 cents to activate? Am I missing something
I attached some of my other studies if you care to see them. They show no competition, however adwords wants 50cents to $1 to activate the keywords. It seems as though some people find opportunities quite readily, and many people like me seem stuck forever. Any feedback or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Email Google and ask. But first type the phrases in Google and see which sponsors show up.
You will find out something that is interesting if you shorten the phrase to just rifle. No one is paying for the word rifle. I was a bit surprised to see this. No sponsors showed up in the results. Sounds like a great place to "compete".
I predict that you will find that 30 cents or whatever is the lowest you can pay for a keyword within your phrases.
No sponsors show up for the terms gun or guns either, strange.

That does seem strange that such a wide word like rifle has no competition, an opportunity there, unless people have tried and failed.

Thank you for your feedback. I spend so much time here I feel that I know both of you.
I found other intersting things concerning this topic, and I am knowlgable here. Keyword research is fun (most of the time)
I am in the same boat as DuckBird. I have been at this for about six months. Many twelve fourteen hour days of study. I have several one page sites. ClickBank, Adsense, and Adwords. I have made about eight bucks so far.
I feel so ready and capable of building a site, and building content. All I need is that illusive topic. Niche choosing can be so frustrating. Maybe I just make it hard for myself. I just need to see how.
Anyway, I will not go away, I will not quit. I am here for the long haul. Thanks again.

One more Thing.
I don't think the term "rifle" would bring targeted traffic. My topic would be eighteenth century firearms, and the recreation thereof. Targeted traffic would be important here.
