I'll be brief here, because I'm getting really tired  , but one company you might want to look into is called Http://AddressAmerica.com
When you visit their website, you can click on their "Business Opportunties" section. They do require a small investment to get started - last I checked it was about $200.00 - but - last I checked (things could have changed so you'll need to give them a call to be sure), you can start distributing flyers in your neighborhood BEFORE you actually order their start up kit.
The benefit of this is that you can find out ahead of time if you'll generate sales before you make the investment. I think they may require you to purchase a business manual for about $8 before they will let you do this, but it really is a potentially good opportunity, and not a scam as far as I can tell - just give them a call (their number is posted on their website) to make sure everything I've said here is correct - things may have changed since I last looked into this.
