Things you have to know: 1) 33% of searches are 2 word combination (keyphrase*) 2) 26% of searches are 3 word combination (keyphrase*) 3) 21% of searches are 4+ word combination (keyphrase*) 4) 20% of searches are 1 word combination (keyword*) 5) look in the Google keyword tool for AdWords to view how many searches are made every month. Click on "Global Monthly Search Volume" to view the amount of monthly searches in the a descendant order. 6) think like your customer 7) use the customers words by going to their website->right click->View source or source. (or the hotkey ctrl+u) Then you look for: <meta name="Description" content="THIS TEXT"> <meta name="Keywords" content="THIS TEXT"> <title>THIS TEXT</title> You can also go to the Google keyword tool for AdWords and then click "Website content", then insert the link of the website, click "Get keyword ideas" and then click on "Global Monthly Search Volume" to view results in the best order. 8) look for your competitors keywords, research these keywords and use them if are ok

Yes all the tips are useful for a newbies. Tags are important. However for long term, we need solid backlinks with anchor text.
