My name is Nima, and I'm wondering if you could help me. I'm a Hotel Manager living on the island of Grenada. During my spare time I work with about five youth who are underprivileged. These kids range in age between 17 to 21. All of them have a secondary school education but no additional skills. They all have goals and dreams. One wants to be a teacher. Another one wants to be a draftsman.
My wife and I run a couple of programs for them - computer skills, math classes, etc.. However, one of the most difficult problems for these young people is to find job. Unemployment in the country is very high. Most jobs are either in the field of Construction or the Hospitality Industry. Our hotel has a small number of staff and is too small for us to take on the youth as employees.
My goal is to improve their condition through education. The idea would be for them to have the opportunity to study while they also make a little bit of an income - by that, I mean somewhere around US$20/day for each person.
I'm willing to put in an initial investment in order to help these youth. The idea would be for them to come to the hotel on their own time. We have a meeting room at our hotel where they could study and use the computers.
That's where I need your advice. I'm looking for something they can do on the Internet that would make them a little bit of money each day. These kids are not the greatest writers. So writing or blogging might not be the best answer. I don't know much about internet marketing or advertising. I'm looking for something that is relatively easy to implement with a small number of people.

Any guidance that you can give me would be much appreciated.

Hmm.........that is somewhat of a challenge. I think receiving money/payments would be a bit difficult because you would probably need Paypal, but I don't think under-18's are allowed to sign up for that.

Also, I'm not sure if Paypal can even be used in Grenada, you'd have to check their list of accepted countries. If not, these kids would have to open bank accounts in another country like the US or UK, which would be extremely difficult, I would imagine.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound negative. I'm sure there must be some way around this.

I guess I'll think about this some more and maybe come back if I have an idea....

    Hi Homeboy,

I really appreciate your comments. I'm not that concerned about the method of payment. If I have to, I'll use my own PayPal account and then just pay them myself. What I'm more concerned about is finding something that will work - something that the kids can do (or at least learn to do over a period of time) without worrying that it's a scam. I don't want to find out after making an investment that it was worthless. Not only would my wife be upset that we blew our own money for nothing, but I would lose the confidence of these youth.

l think it would be better to tried them in the flieds were there are jobs. since they are still young they can adjust . you can tell them why you think they should do that and let them decided. there are thing like survey that would be good and it does not require any skills. but the good one that pay are in the U.S and you have to been in the states. its kind of hard really.

writing would also be the easy of them all . or creating awebsite

Signing up and being accepted by Paypal is not the problem. It's how to take some young people who don't live in the US and are not skilled and find them ways to make money online.

Check webmaster forums, most webmasters are looking for someone to advertise their websites by posting their ads in classifieds

Sorry, I know I've been off this board for a while, but it just occurred to me that a great way for these kids to make money online would be to create a Squidoo lens.

I'm not sure how much you know about Squidoo, but basically you pick any subject that you are interested in, and create a 'lens', which is just a single page containing bits of info on that subject that you've found elsewhere on the net. In other words, you just browse around the net looking for pics and useful info on your subject, and then put it all together in a single page, which is something even a child could do.

You can easily monetize these lenses and sell anything you like on them. For example, you can include affiliate stuff like amazon associates, ebay auctions etc. and earn passive money from those. The sky is the limit.

This is all free and very easy to set up. Squidoo provides you with a lot of useful tools and wizards to create your lenses.

Finally, squidoo also provides a cool facility where you can SELL your squidoo lenses. Some of these go for really high prices, depending on the quality of the content, traffic and income potential.

Anyway, this is just an idea, but I think it would be a fun and lucrative project for the kids.
