    Hi there,

I appreciate all your help and support recently regarding working from home. I would like to discuss affiliating.

Can someone give me the breif overview.

What does it mean to affiliate?
    How does it work?
What sort of costs are involved?
Does it earn you a real income?

Im reasonably knowledged about this, but would appreciate some help from you if thats ok so I have it all clear.

Also, would you say this is the best, and only real way, or earning at home?

My understanding of the business meaning of affiliate is to pay commission base on tangible sales of products or services.

E.g. h++p://www.365dp.com/?ref=0000000. Underlined is the referral URL. It represents the member's affiliation, the numbers (0000000) represents the member ID, and this is how 365dp would know who to make the payout to if ever someone was referred by you.

You would have to invest into marketing your affiliation with the company in order to produce sales or services.

This is the furthest I can answer your inquiry base on your questions. I am sure many others will have something to say![IMG]

Most major product suppliers, i.e. Amazon, Sporting Goods, Book Stores, etc offer affiliate options, but I think the income generated from affiliating would be sporadic at first. Most people, in those instances, will go directly to the website of that product.

I don't think I've ever clicked on an affiliate link, and of the few I had placed on my own site, I don't think I ever received a click-through...

    Sure Drew!

Q: What does it mean to affiliate?

A: An affiliate is an individual or company that promotes someone else's products/services in exchange for a commission on each sale.

    Q: How does it work?

A: The selling is typically conducted via a "carbon copy" of the product company's Web site, but could be also done through an unrelated site. (e.g. your own web site.) The product company usually provides banners, classified advertisements and other marketing tools along with tips to help the affiliate be successful.

Q: What sort of costs are involved?

A: The affiliate is responsible for ALL expenses associated with promoting the product and getting the sale BEFORE earning the commission. The product company's outlay is the startup and maintenence costs - product/service, web site, promotional tools, product information, payment system, and so on. They have little risk after that since commissions are paid only AFTER sales are made.

Q: Does it earn you a real income?

A: Yes, mostly for the product company. There may be hundreds or thousands of affiliates spending their own money to promote the company's product/service. When measured against expenses, the company usually comes out ahead. An affiliate could also earn a "real income" depending on how aggressive and effective he or she is at promoting to get the sale.

Q: Also, would you say this is the best, and only real way of earning at home?

A: It's only ONE way to earn from home. It may be the best for some and the worst for others, because what works for one person may not work for another.

Hope this helps you to have it all clear. [IMG]

I saw this thread and wanted to comment on affiliate marketing. This type of Home Based Business can be very lucrative. It has pros and cons like an offline businesses. (brick & mortar) Many advantages exist though. I do very well with all of the affiliate programs that I promote. As with any other business, it requires dedication and hard work, No pie in the sky, be wary of all the scams that will take your money and not look back. A learning curve is always in any endeavor. Thanks for allowing me to comment.

  6. Hey Drew,

My first question is do you have a Website or Blog on which to advertise Any Affiliate program?

You need a place to advertise the products. Once you have a place to start, follow Hermas' info.

There are plenty of good affiliate programs, ie CJ.com, AdSense, Chitika... the list is long. These programs Do pay.

Make sure to investigate the advertisers fully, and once you make a decision, Go for it.

    Good Luck,
    Joe

You must put all the detailed answers for all the questions.
    Great effort.

Personally, i feel that most of the business opportunities are affiliate programs. You need to promote sell the company products/services.

    Just my 2 cents

Joining an Affiliate Program is really a powerful way to Leverage your time in making a really really nice Income. I truly believe we are just hitting the tip of the iceberg as far as the potential and possibilities of Affilliate Marketing for the long term future.

Basically Internet marketing is barely 12 years old . And its going to be strong for the next 50 years or so. It will evolve into different things as any new modern industry does.

I think if you really take advantage of the opportunities right now you will only reap the rewards as more and more people across the World start tapping into this genre of money making !! Asia and its billions of people are just starting to realize for the first time the incredible options with free enterprise. And as the Chinese govt relingusihes control of the Internet the possibilities for all of us will be endless [IMG]

    Good luck.

I agree, affiliate marketing and internet marketing in general is a booming and ever expanding business model. It's like an infinite mall.

Affiliate marketing is the most cost effective route you can take when becoming a online entrepreneur. You can join affiliate marketing networks for FREE and start promoting their affiliate products.

All assuming you know how to market on the Internet but if you don't then you will want to take the time to network and try and find someone who is already successful in the industry to teach you how to market on the Internet.

Affiliate marketing is also where the REAL money is generated.

I imagine by now Drew has figured out the ins and outs of affiliate marketing (original post was Jan 2006), but for other affiliate newbies - essentially, being an affiliate is the same process as if you set up your own site to sell your own products.

As an affiliate you just replace your own products with other people's. That saves you time, money and effort.

Having done that it's a matter of marketing, as someone above mentioned. I'd suggest you use the onsite search button in this forum and look at one or two of the threads that deal with traffic generation - the "how to" stuff.

There are a lot of free marketing methods you can use if you'll stick to doing some of them daily.

So, find or create a product to sell ( yours or someone else's affiliate product), then market it to generate traffic and make sales.

The final basic question then is, do you send visitors directly to the other person's product sales page from your advertising? Or, do you have a web page of your own that you set up and send them to to "pre-sell" them on the product so you get a better conversion rate when they do click across to the product sales page.

This pre-sell page could be a review of the product, written in a way that shows you as an objective and qualified expert (this links in with which products you choose to use as an affiliate for, i.e. do you have relevant skills and expertise to use in your marketing (articles etc).

So, your page just looks like an informative page, no selling. You just happen to put the product link in there (a few different ways) for readers to go look at the product for themselves after reading your review.

This also means you can advertise your review page in a more relaxed way, i.e. "I'm not selling anything, just giving you valuable information, which everybody seems to want."

From there it's a matter of finding affiliate products to suit you. Go to somewhere like Clickbank.com and click on their marketplace link and do a search through the categories. Plug in "popularity" or especially "gravity" as a search criteria. This helps you see which products are making other affiliates top dollar - like 70%-300% is great gravity.

    All the best.

    own,
"Billy- Can you recommend and good affiliate marketing sites?"

Do you want to affiliate to info products, hard goods, services? I do well with article marketing info products from Clickbank, but they are by no means the only program. Does that help?
