I have a question about affiliate marketing, which will probably seem quite naive:

I'll use ClickBank as an example:

When I ultimately decide upon a product available on the list, do I actually need to purchase the product or service? I want to start writing articles about products and posting them on a blog, but I'm still a little unsure about the actual process. I'm currently trying to go through the Profit Lance course step-by-step and being patient. Also, I love writing, though I'm a bit out pf practice. Oh, well, it's a lot like riding a bicycle...[IMG]

Also, if I have in mind a product that I already use and really enjoy, do I contact the manufacturer and inquire about whether or not they have an affiliate program?

Any help here to nudge me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

If you would like some free awesome training check out the 30 Day Challenge you will learn everything you are asking about just by watching their educational videos and yes I said it's FREE so take advantage of it and then apply what you learn to your PL course. Ed Dale is fun to learn with and he's quite knowledgeable in IM. Just google 30 Day Challenge and you will see what I'm saying is true.

You don't have to purchase a Clickbank product before you can sell it.

You just need to have your affiliate ID.

Thank you, Sonni, for the advice. I joined the Challenge today and have watched the initial hour-long video. It does seem like a lot to absorb, but I realize that all this information can't be taken in overnight.

Thank you, too, johntanyishin, for the info. I suppose I was confused by the sites that offer affiliate participation, but I'd like to find out more about the product or service without having to personally buy each one, if you get my drift. I want to start writing articles and reviews, but I want to know what I'm talking about...

    KDMiller55,

If you email some sellers and explain that you are gunna promote their product there is always a chance they may send you their product for free. You never know. However if you do feel you want the product purchase it through you own link [IMG] obviously you can do this excessively thats not what clickbank.

When there are particular products that I want to promote but don't know if they have affiliate programs, I try 2 different things.

First, I google "search term + affiliate" without the quotes and see if I can find a company that sells the particular product and has an affiliate program.

If that is unsuccessful, the second thing I try is contacting the company that sells the product and ask them if they have an affiliate program you can join so that you can recommend their products and earn commissions. Sometimes they respond, sometimes they don't. [IMG]

    Hi KDMiller,

It's better you buy it first ... In this way it's easier to promote it if you know it works .... But it's not a necessity ... It's all about building credibility with your list of potential customers ... If you want to sell to them again of course ):

I meant you cant do this over and over again thats not what clickbank is for and they may catch on.

Also if you are reviewing a product or have a site that reviews products and your recommend a product which you haven't tried yourself and it turns out to be a scam your reputation could be destroyed. Just another thought.
