    Just a thought...[IMG]

I wonder if part of this online marketing business makes it more likely for people to 'embelish' their successes? I know I have done this... on occassion ...confession time.. [IMG]

I have to admit in my own defense, it is mainly due to self preservation.. fresh meat syndrome.. new members of any forum such as this.(and this is by no means the worst at all) are fair game to be pm'd with other 'more experienced' marketers wanting to sell their particular brand or ebook or system etc etc..

By appearing to 'know what you are doing..old timer , been there done that.. making thousands per minute..blah blah blah ' maybe we try to protect ourselves?

(are we all playing at being someone we're not? Or am I just talking out of my bum?....[IMG] (so what is the matrix? LOL)

I just want to understand what I'm doing.. this stuff fascinates me! So I'm here to evesdrop on those who know and those who like to think they know[IMG]

I am one of the ones who no nothing! [IMG]

(but maybe you already guessed that[IMG])

I think it all depends on the person. Some people will lie and manipulate others to gain a quick buck, but there are also plenty of other people who are honest and try to help people avoid the scammers.

While there are some people who have never made any money online, that doesn't mean that they can't still help other people out with the knowledge they have gained and contribute to the forum that's a lot different than someone who "pretends" to be a guru by making up lies about how much they have earned, when in reality they have never made a dime...

I think that's true caveat emptor (spelling???)

    Or player/user beware...?

I would not personally lie to anyone joining me in any business.
It may come back to bite you later.

I'm new to this forum and I just wanted to say... I'm not a LIAR!!! That is why I am always searching and looking for opportunities. I look for the opportunities that will not SCAM anyone. Opportunities that will benefit everyone and not just looking for a get-rich-quick scheme.

    southbank63,

You are very refreshing! I'm sure you are probably quite right, too. I am always skeptical when I read claims in forums. I tend to check out the signatures and see if their "site" is one of the same old regurgitated hyped up flash pages I've seen a thousand times before.

I admit to having started with some of those, as I didn't know anything else. I even placed ads in the free classifieds using hyped phrasing as I was advised. It seemed a bit underhanded, and, of course, netted me nothing. [IMG]

I determined not to lead people down that same path once I realized the "error of my ways." (ha ha) I keep my claims honest, or keep my mouth closed. I asked the Lord to bless my online endeavors, so I can't justly expect Him to do so if I'm being less than truthful.

I'm much more likely to believe the claims of those who have a nice professional looking site that is obvious they have put real time and effort into.

Thanks for making me laugh out loud with your post!

I can't help it, I've got to brag. In just two months I've made a whopping $36.37.

Don't you just love those testimonials

I signed up for "The Ultimate Profit Jerk" and in 24 hours I was able to quit my job!

Hey, at least you made something. It took me about 9 months before I made my first sale, so you are 7 months ahead of the ball game from where I was at when I started![IMG]

I wasnt suggesting you were a liar.. [IMG] cos i dont know you...[IMG]
I was just taking a thought for a walk... cos.. there is quite a lot of...er..mm..how do i say this?

Lets say I prefer to believe that the majorityof people here have integrity and good intentions.. but by the law of averages there will also be those who are only too ready to take advantage of 'new' people.. though I have to admit since joining this forum i have only had positive suggestions and advice..nobody has tried 'too' hard to get me to buy their product.. and after all that is partly why we are here..isnt it..?

Altruism is fantastic..but so is paying the bills LOL[IMG]

I think fake it until you make it is pretty hard to do today. You can check traffic numbers for any webste and get a pretty good idea if a person is really making money online based on that. Based on what I have seen I would guess a 95% failure rate on the internet is true so anyone making false claims stands a good chance of being a liar.

liar liar pants on fire then..? [IMG]

You will be found out... But...

That works for seasoned marketers like yourself who know how to check such things.. but many new to marketing do not.. which is the crux of my argument.. i spose?

There do appear to be people here who are happy to put up warning signs for virgins tho.. which is good..[IMG]

    southbank63,

[IMG] Ooops! I didn't even look at your signature when I said that. I'm glad you have a sense of humor and didn't take it as a personal insult.

Having said that, are you having any success with that program (I did take a look since)? I'll be really surprised (pleasantly so) if you do well with it. It sounds a tad too good to be true, if you know what I mean.

Do consider something a little more realistic for your long term success, and don't lose your sense of humor.

As a teacher, I have to learn to read people, what they say and write. And you can pretty much tell when someone is sincere and when theyre being manipulative. Its the same with most sites. What gets me as a newbie (still in the research stage) is I'm always thinking "hmmm what if I could make $24,000 in 2 days...." LOL I know its false but I wast time checking out the site anyway.

So how do I check a sites traffic???? lemme guess...its top secret!!

    Brooke,

You can try the Alexa Toolbar for site stats.

They have a great reputation as a stand-up company, so I doubt they would pull any fast ones. Copy/paste this link into your browser and take a look at it.

    http://www.alexa.com/site/download

Additionally, you can also install the Google Toolbar to see page rank and other stuff.

    http://toolbar.google.com/T4/index_pack.html

As an aside, finish up all of Profit Lance. The education you seek for now is there. You can learn more later. Don't pay for anything else until you finish.

Jumping in before you know what you are doing is called backwards marketing. Learn first, then put into practice or you will likely regret it. Hold on to your job for a while yet, it takes time.

You will also have to decide on a few topics first - at least one that you know real well or would like to know real well. It's good to make a list of a few though. It's a good idea to plan your whole campaign before you launch it (I know, another time consumming effort!).
