for example i have 3 categories of business i'm promoting:

    music content and adsense

    computers affiliate (review site)

    acai berry content (adsense)

when building backlinks should i not connect these sites at all? should my music content site always link to other music content sites i create and other hi traffic sites of others that i think i should connect with for the purpose of seo?

    what's your opinions out there?

    thank you!

Really speaking, I would suggest you would be better off not inter-linking these sites. While it may boost your PR (PageRank) a bit, I don't think it'll add much value to the site's rankings. Earlier, it used to work very well. You create a new site and link it from your established site and get an immediate boost in ranking. It doesn't work that way now.

It would be best to keep each of these within their niche. You can certainly interlink if you want but you probably won't see much of a conversion from music to acai.
You'll do better keeping your back link building (except for artcicle sites or course which have multiple articles) to things for each niche..
Search engines look at the keywords of your backlink and the keywords of your site.. if they match then they put a little more stock in them.. if they don't then they won't put much stock in the back-link (it wont' really raise your on the serps (search engine result pages)

hope I answered your question, have a great day

I agree, it's better to keep the sites linking within their respective niche. Even though it may mean fewer backlinks the ones you do have will be stronger and valued higher as far as the search engines are concerned. One of the measurements they use is relevancy or how relevant is this site to the search terms entered and having backlinks to sites that aren't related to the content that's being searched for can water down your SEO value.

    Good luck!

    Agreed....
Concentrate your efforts on solving your customers problem.
    Don't confuse or distract them.

Keep your customers focused on what brought them to your site in the first place.

I agree with the others. Only link sites together that are in the same niche for both the customer AND the search engines. You can confuse the SE into thinking you are a spam site if you have all kinds of sites linking together that are not related in topic.

Thank you everybody for your input into this question!

I will start focusing on creating relevant links within niches as opposed to adding scattered niches.

I'd just like to add my 2 cents.

I believe that when it comes to backlinking, it is best to focus on a natural approach. This means that you should focus on getting links from a variety of sources and niches.

Just like it's not recommended to just get high PR links, the same can be said about getting links only from your target niche. That is not how the internet works.

But then again that is only my theory..

As far as interlinking your virtual real estate, I wouldn't. No reason aside from you pointing out to Google all of your sites. Not that they couldnt find that information out if they wanted to ;p
