I did some cold calling this morning for a friend that is selling Cutco and I am soooo glad that calling leads whether, cold, lukewarm or hot, is part of my pastlife!!

Just had to come on here and rant a bit about that. [IMG]

Calling leads is an effective way of marketing, but thank God that there are excellent ways to market online and succeed without having to initiate a "sales" call.

Effective online marketing produces interested parties that contact you when they want to get more info. The key is to just be sure to get a person adequate info to make a proper and fully informed decision.

I sold Cutco before! The knives are great, their marketing plan to exploit college kids isn't.

    Wish them luck for me!

    Yeah lol,

They brought me on in high school and had me target friends and family, then ask for referrals, etc, etc, etc,.

It was awful. They don't even need sales people they just use us to make friends and family feel bad and buy knives.

I really hate the concept, but I made some good money while it lasted =].

I told my dad they were sharp, so he rubs his finger on the blade and cuts himself =] lol.

    I bet you did! lol

Who doesn't feel sorry for a college kid and want to help them out, especially if they happen to have great people skills which I am sure you did.[IMG]

Haha yeah it's like I'm a little puppy out in the storm with no food or shelter.

I suppose my people skills aren't too shabby!. Thanks =]. But even with okay people skills this job really pushed me outside my comfort level. Looking back it was a beneficial learning process though.

Congradualtions! Once you have learned how to attract people to you on the internet and work hard for several weeks to set up your marketing system to have people contact you. Game Over!

I was on the opposite end this weekend with a friend calling me with an opportunity. He wanted me to go watch a 1/2 hour video at at a house of a person that I did not know. I asked what is this about and his reply was "It's powerful"

I asked how much is start up cost "He replied it will be explained at meeting' Finally after being very objectionable I asked what is the name of the company. He reluctantly told me the name. I said let me call you back.

I researched the company and found out if what it was and called him back and said I wasn't interested. I am sure he was doing what he was told. Make a list of family and friends and invite them to view video. I really dislike that way of recruiting. It might work to get some quick sign ups but drop out rate and hard feelings also occur with most of them.

Cutco or whatever, do you like the product? If yes, then you can recommend it to your family and friends in a natural way.

Let's say you have a product that will help end a war. Wouldn't you spread the word about it even if you don't get paid for that? The same here, if your product is of a higher quality than anything else in the Market, why not share this little secret with your friends and family the way friends and family do it?

I did Melaleuca for a while. My motive to spread the word to my friends wasn't the money (which is very little compared to what I am doing now), it was because I tried the products and compared with the ones I buy from the store.

My recommendation was genuine, that's why there are no had feelings.

So if the knives are great there is no reason to really do what your sponsor or up-line says. Just do it naturally.

Calling for that purpose in particular isn't natural though. I would pick up the conversation when the issue is raised by anyone but me.

That's it when it comes to the "warm market".

LOL - yeah me too... and it was the 3rd person that had called me about the exact same opportunity so I knew what is was already... I must look like a prime candidate as I usually get hit with whatever new opportunity that is making it's rounds. [IMG]

You are, seriously. Just two days ago someone tried to recruit me to GDI! Because they don't know the difference they target successful marketers (as if I were one [IMG]) hoping they will do the work for them.

haha - that must be it. This gal then asked me what I DO online to make money but within the first two sentences she said I lost her. LOL

This is first time someone approached with opportunity and used the word powerful to entice me. Skunk odor is powerful too but doesn't mean I have any interest in it.

As I said before, what really irritates me is why people won't name company they are promoting.

Because of the companies don't trust the marketer they don't allow just anyone to represent them. Only after they've been with the company for long enough, and have proven to be good representative to the name of the company, only then they are allowed to do so. And not on a one on one basis, it has to be in a meeting where other reps are also their to watch each other.

It's your gold member badge and 2600 posts =].

People follow their upline's advice. "Tell as little as possible". "Get them to the call". etc. etc.

However, it is what works =]..

When I talk to someone in person I give them a business card and tell them to "take the tour" and I won't answer any questions. The card does have the name of the company though.

If you answer questions they will think they have to do the same.. And it is so much easier to say take the tour.. AND it peaks their curiosity more =].

You are right though. There is no reason someone should hide their companies name. Like Partner With Paul. I am pretty sure to an extent Yahia is right in the sense you are not allowed to tell the companies name in lots of cases. Every company has different rules. I know Shaklee you need to have the company name hidden behind a squeeze page.

Ah the fun world of networking =].

The company I promote is 4pointgroup which is a partner company to another company which we are not allowed to promote. So how do I promote and sell my company when I cant mention all the great things about it. It cost $29 to join (can pay less, depends) then you pay $500 (for product package which you can return, empty bottle policy). Now my question is with such a great sell tool there - low cost and money back on products - how do I promote it when I cant use it?

It seems silly to do that. I believe in the product I sell because I have seen the difference it makes but I cant sell the product or use the great features till after a promo video, on the second call. Trick is to get them to the second call.

The other thing that I have seen is they have an out-dated list that everyone tries their hand at calling - so you effectively call some-one who has been called 10 times before.

ouch - must be Malleluca or something similar. So who is gonna know if you are honest and tell them what the product is?

I love their products but someone needs to help them with a good training program. Motivational calls and training is great but practical internet marketing training is much better in my opinion!

So if you can somehow tap into a good system to help you generate your own leads you should be able to do okay - Matt might be able to help you on that end??
