dreamweaver takes a little work to get comfortable with, but after you work with it for awhile it is very powerful.

I prefer dreamweaver, it is easy and very powerful if you know the features inside.

Dreamweaver is the better of the two, but it is VERY complex, and I'd say that Frontpage is the easier of the two. However, I remember a member of this forum bought Frontpage a while back, and she didn't seem to know how to use it, so either way, a beginner or "non tech" person will likely have a difficult time adjusting. However, you can get training videos for either on video for about $25, which will make learning how to use them a lot easier.

I am a freelance graphic designer, and I would say that Frontpage is the more simple program of the two. However, Dreamweaver is by far a much more powerful program. Though a bit more complex, Dreamweaver is in my opinion, far superior to Frontpage.

If you feel a bit timid approaching Dreamweaver, there are hundreds of video tutorials on YouTube. These tutorials are great and you will soon find yourself more comfortable when using this program.

    Best luck,

I downloaded a trial copy of DreamWeaver and couldn't figure out how to use it. It is the better of the two, but...

FrontPage was reworked from the ground up a couple of years ago and is now called Expression Web (EW), but in your web hosting account you still enable "FrontPage Extensions".

I watched the Microsoft online demo of EW and said, "That's exactly what I need." So I bought it. I used FrontPage for years, but boy, does it ever leave some nasty stuff in the code and it didn't conform to standards.

Like I said, they completely rewrote it and the GUI interface is much different. EW comes with a tutorial DVD from Total Learning. It really helped me out because I would have been lost without it.

EW conforms to coding standards and makes use of CSS. I'm not a professional developer, but I really like it for my needs.

If you want to learn dreamweaver for free and PS, FW, AI, FL,
At no cost go to tutvid.com
You can watch all the videos free but if you want to download you will have to pay.

If you want to build sites for basic internet marketing activity
learn WordPress. Google likes it better than the static
HTML sites DW and FP produce.

Frontpage has been replace with Expression Web 2 which is a full CSS web editor so you can use ANY CSS web template to create your site, or do it from scratch with a combination of HTML and WYSIWYG site creation.

I started working with EW just last week and I love it. I think it is better than Dreamweaver and especially for those who find DW daunting, they may find EW just the cats meow.

Btw...over the years I have used Dreamweaver, Frontpage 97,98 2003, Coffee Cup, SiteSpinner, and Expression Web among some others.

A couple of years ago I had to fire a web designer that my boss hired because he built the site in Frontpage after we specifically told him not to because our server was not setup to support frontpage extensions.

Does the replacement for FP still require special extensions?

    Hi Bob,

Yes, last I checked. I'm not a big fan of FP at all. It's okay for a first time low end website if you don't feel like learning code but it spews junk code and is generally fairly limiting.

I used both for a while, but Dreamweaver was just too complex for me personally...i actually ended up using NVU which is a free web builder, and using filezilla to transfer the files to my server, also free [IMG]

Dreamweaver is the best for programmer's and Developers because it helps them from coding most standards, it helps them to debug easily the program unlike frontpage, also DW is made for complex data driven website like php and asp.

Front page is for basic HTML site because it doesnt have debug unlike DW.
