    Paid Surveys Scams

There are many websites out there which claim you can earn up to $5,000 a month with paid surveys. While it is possible to make a little extra money with paid surveys, you are DISILLUSIONED if you think you can earn enough money with paid surveys to quit your day job!

Oh, and by the way, many paid surveys companies send you lots of SPAM after you have given them your email address. In fact, I once had to get rid of an email address after signing up with paid surveys through a "free" paid surveys website!

Data Entry & Type From Home Scams

Another type of scam many people run into online are "Data Entry" or "Type From Home" scams. These kinds of programs claim that you can earn thousands of dollars just typing data into a computer. Hey, why try and be the CEO of your company when you can earn more just by typing data into your computer???

The fact of the matter is that if you could make thousands of dollars just by entering data into a computer, EVERYONE would be doing it! If you really want to work in the data entry field, that is fine - these jobs typically pay between $8 and $13 per hour, but are usually NOT work at home jobs. Simply post your resume FREE at monster.com to find a job in data entry or a job in a related field. Whatever you do, DON'T shell out money to work in the data entry field!

    Multilevel Marketing Scams

It seems like practically every day, a new multilevel marketing company pops out of no where, claiming that you can be the next high tech toilet paper distributor, who will not only make millions, but save the planet as well!

While there are some legitimate multilevel marketing companies, the fact of the matter is that many of these companies make their money not by selling products to every day consumers, but by charging "sign up" fees of up to $500 or more, and then selling you expensive products that no one outside of the multilevel marketing company wants.

One thing people can't stand about multilevel marketing companies is that you have to "bug" your friends and family to get people to join. The fact of the matter is that no one likes to buy overpriced products they never heard of, nor do they want to bug their friends and family to sell these over priced products to get rich.

    Get Rich Quick Scams

All of the above are examples of different kinds of get rich quick scams that promise you riches beyond your wildest dreams, with very little work. The fact of the matter is that earning money online takes a lot of effort, and a lot of hard work.

Is is possible to make money online, but don't expect it to be an easy ride, without any hard work or determination. I sincerely believe that affiliate marketing offers you the best chance of earning a decent amount of money online, and you can do it totally scam free, with very little investment. If you are tired of getting burned and want to start earning a good income to start earning online, I would suggest that you learn affiliate marketing.

Nice post, thanks for posting it.

I wanted to mention that, while the data entry jobs are usually scams, as you pointed out, some of the typing jobs actually are real, if they're transcription "typing" jobs, and some of them pay pretty good.

Transcription work at home jobs are legit, but you need to have a good typing speed

Most data entry jobs are a scam. Think about it: Who is really going to pay you to type? And if they will, don't expect to make much. You won't be paid what you're worth.

Thanks for the info. I am so sick of scams. I have been burned a couple of times but now am very wary. I just wish there was a way to burn some of these scammers. You would think there would be a law or something. Evidently organizations like the BBB can only do so much. Part of the problem is a lot of people can and do get their money back but enough people don't try for a refund, so the scammers make money.

Too bad there's only a few legitimate online opportunies. The real ones don't charge to apply, but there's a valid application process where a person's resume, references and abilities are evaluated, and like any real job, most applications are rejected - I know.

Good advice as everyone has almost been burned by such scams at one point or another.

While there are scams out there, don't let that stop you from your goals and dreams of having a great online business that makes you big money. Also beware that some people are quick to label a program a scam just because they failed at it...that doesn't make the program a scam. Many fail at the massive amount of opportunities out there because they don't know how to evaluate the marketing aspect of the opportunity and what it will take to succeed, others just fail because they don't commit long enough. So rather you spend money to join a business or not, know that there is big money to be made online once you commit to succeeding. Don't let fear of a scam hold you back...Many of us are making great money online, more than enough to support our families join us.

One thing that really is a scam is online gambling. As a programmer myself, I can promise you that those games are entirely rigged, and you WILL lose. You will NOT 'beat the house' using ANY super special secret system you happen to find on ebay, just trust me on this one.

I doubt if they are ALL scams, but I think you are right in that a lot of them are rigged. Of course, if you gamble, you are probably going to eventually lose your money anyway...

How true, It does pay to do some upfront investigation of whatever program you are thinking about joining though.

Just make sure the company you join with has full training and support. Thats why franchises tend to do so well. Just pick an online company that does the same thing. You should be provided with full training and support on every level, from business plan to actually marketing techniques.

But the only way you find out these things is a forum like this or another neutral party. You must do your due diligence. And if you get burned you only have yourself to blame.

    Hear Hear to this post!

I just got burned by a very popular online "opportunity" (which I'm about to post about in a separate thread). Anything that promises you big riches without putting in big effort is leading you astray.

And I agree, affiliate marketing with an established affiliate network like commission junction or linkshare is the best way to go for most people getting started. Why?

Unlike many of these other "opportunities", these are companies allow you to promote REAL, name brand products that there's an existing demand for. Plus, these are comanies that have withstood the test of time.

I have also been burned a few times but have also found some very good programs.

I have also made some real good friends in which to share experiences with and to bounce ideas of off.

It takes work not mater if it is on the Internet of not.

Not all MLM Companies are scams!

I'm with a wonderful Company that has been a leader in the Discounted Health Benefits field for over 16 years. We were even featured on 60 minutes as the leader in Consumer Driven Health Care. I love the product and the opportunity that I've been provided. I receive excellent training, residual income and I never once have had to bug my friends and family.

MLM can be an excellent way to providing a substantial income while still having the backing of a Solid Company.

I realize that there are lots of Scams out there, but I hate it that so many people will miss out on a great opportunity because they have pre-judged all MLM as scams. [IMG]

Ok...I won't go into how unfair it is to create a post telling people how to avoid these 4 systems and ending up saying "LOOK INTO AFFILIATE MARKETING" when your signature links are clearly affiliate type links.

I understand that many feel that you must beat the perceived competition into the ground to succeed.

Let's face it. You have a good point when you bring up the potential schemes and scams in all of these categories. But is affiliate marketing any different?

    No, it's not.

I know plenty of people who have gotten burned there too.

It comes down to doing your research and taking risks.

Find someone who has PROVEN success in the field you wish to enter and follow them. It's really simple. Virtually all of these business' attract the most ambitious and helpful people on Earth. So call them up and get one on one help.

    It's easy.

And remember to have fun....and don't listen to critics. Follow your intuition. It's your highest mental faculty for a reason.

    Peace

Just for the record, Danny, last month I earned about $1,600 in commissions from affiliate programs, so they can work if you know what you are doing.

Yes, there are some over-rated products in affiliate marketing, but like you said about following someone who has "proven success" - I've basically done that with Wealthy Affiliate and BANS (Build A Niche Store), which are both quality programs, created by individuals who are highly successful at what they do. Its great to be able to recommend programs to others that you believe in...

Please don't try and play innocent and pretend that you don't have something to promote in your signature. If its a quality program, more power to you, but realize that myself and a lot of other people here do try to promote quality programs that don't rip people off, so I hope that you would give us the same respect as you would expect us to give to you when you are trying to point out scams.

dmitch31: What is a "cash gifting" scam?

'Cash Gifting' is just sending cash to people on a list.

Of course, you put YOUR name on the list too!

In one case, you send $3500 cash(!!!) to a person on the list, and people do the same for you. Via FedEx, or the like.

Of course, who the hell iz gonna do THAT?!!
SO, they have an option for you to send/receive $500.

Reworked chain letter, is the only way I can understand it.

But yeah, I am looking to make money, maybe even NEED money, so the first thing I'm gonna do is SEND $3500 to someone I don't even know!

(insert your own sarcastic comment here!)!!!!!
