...plagiarizing a post that was too thoughtful for the forums' own good? The reason why I am asking, is because I had recently posted, in my mind, a lenghty post that asked a very thought-provoking question. And what did the moderator of that forum do, he de-activated my account, because he thought that I pulled it from somewhere.
Now to anyone reading this, there is no way I can prove the validity of what transpired. So, I am really only asking then in generally, if anyone has ever been banned, without notice, from a forum when you were in the right. (And I mean, really in the right, not I think I am right and the heck with everyone.)

BTW: To the moderator here, I like this forum, so please do not ban me for posting this. Thank you. And if you are going to, at least give a guy a warning first, unlike Stalin from whence I came.

The moderator has every right to do that and if the moderator really cares about the forum, he (and even I) would definitely do that.

Agree that you have a good intent of helping the forum members but plagiarizing simply suggests that you are too lazy to post a summary or write your perspective about the post. A forum is unlike an article directory where you post the same duplicate content again and again. A forum is made up by the discussion that takes place between it's members. When you post the same content in multiple forums, it suggests to the moderator you care a least for the forum and are simply there to get the word out about your business. Such users rarely take part in discussions and such acts kill the forum.

Thanks Vishal for responding. I hope others here will see the post and weigh in their perspective as well. But, I was curious as to whether or not you were referring to me, when you stated 'you' in this statement below:

"...but plagiarizing simply suggests that you are too lazy to post a summary or write your perspective about the post."

I know that this is your forum, so I have no intention of disrespecting you. But, even you have to admit that when someone insults your intelligence, you have to defend it. Right?

Without coming off as flattering, from your profile pic, you seem to be an intelligent guy yourself. So, what if you posted an intelligent post and a moderator banned you for posting it. Would that be a justifiably cause to ban you? Democracy over Tyranny I say. What say you?

Oh, btw, do you have a rant and rave section in your forum? Because I think I just did a little bit of both here. Oh and one last thing, good job on the site. It is definitely clean and professionally done. Take Care!!

I know what you are saying greenion but what the moderators are doing is KEEPING this a discussion forum and NOT a place where folks can post lengthy articles.[IMG]

Which is what makes this place what it is.[IMG]

I also posted an article here a week or two ago and got it deleted and also got a warning from Mr Vishal.

I guess that keeping this forum clean of stuff like that is the best way to go and I totally respect the decision made by Vishal.

    Moving forward.

Oh I'm sorry. It was not YOU that I actually meant. YOU in my context referred to everyone that match what you described.

greenion: But, even you have to admit that when someone insults your intelligence, you have to defend it. Right?
The written word is very dangerous as it can be construed in many ways by the reader and I really don't blame you if you think I insulted your intelligence, which was really not my intent.

If the post, no matter how intelligent, violates the forum rules, then the moderator has every right to delete the post. Now if that comes as an insult to the poster, then may be the poster should soften down his ego a bit. It's not the clash of ego here. It's about principles.

That has never happened to me, and never would, since all my posts are my own opinions. But the thread raises many interesting points. The first one concerns "a post that was too thoughtful for the forum's own good."

Any conscientious moderator would welcome "thoughtful" posts because they elevate the quality of the forum. On the other hand, if s/he only suspected that a post was plagiarized, a thoughtful first response might be to PM the member and politely address the suspicion.

However, if the post was an outright violation of the forum Terms of Use, then the moderator has every right to exercise whatever penalty the violation triggers.

Vishal P. Rao: but plagiarizing simply suggests that you are too lazy to post a summary or write your perspective about the post.
Agreed! And that's a shame because one can very easily avoid charges of plagiarism by simply attributing the content to the rightful author.

greenion: So, what if you posted an intelligent post and a moderator banned you for posting it. Would that be a justifiable cause to ban you?
Not in my opinion. As long as the post stayed within the confines of the forum rules, even if the opinion was unpopular or controversial, banning the member would appear to be a reckless reaction rather than a justifiable one.

Plus, such an arbitrary action would do more to hinder open forum discussion than encourage it.

That's our beloved administrator doing what he does best to maintain the high standards and reputation this forum is known for. [IMG]
