    Forums Members,

I was just wondering have anyone every got their account closed, shutdown or banned for no reason at all. There have been people I have talked to who have had problems like this, which is very sad. These are people who have ran their businesses online, weather it was an eBay store ect..

I will love to know weather anyone here, has been missed used by these services in this way or another?
If so! I will love to hear your story.

I've never had that happen to me, but I've heard about it happening to others. Lots of times, someone will break a rule and do something they know they shouldn't be doing...

I have heard the stories over and over but fortunately it has never happened to me. I hope it never does as well.

I have heard stories but it was usually associated with mlm as Paypal for one is very strict about that.

But I have personally not had anything happen. Actually, I did get banned from an advertising place once [IMG] but that was thru my own stupidity..[IMG]

I have been using Social Marker, and my promotions have all been IM related.

I bookmarked a site for someone I was helping, and happened to love the site.
    It was not IM related.

Just as habit, I used Social Marker, and accidentally submitted to Slashdot.

They banned me, and at that time I had not realized my error. Of course I could not log in to see what was wrong.

I send an email asking what was wrong, and they send a reply"what link did you submit" nothing else.
Then, I figured it out, I must have submitted that non-IM related link.
I wrote a very nice, long and humble letter, explaining, and they just ignore me.

I mean humans are not perfect.
Then I Google "banned from Slashdot" and I see I am not alone.

    What can one do?

I have been banned by paypal before. I was involved in a business selling ebook at the front using paypal, but at the backend, there is a membership if the person is interested to join.

Then paypal banned me because this business is related to mlm.
To me, it is more to affilate marketing instead of mlm.

That's big business for ya. One person with just a little slip up and they don't give you any time to argue your side of the story.
I guess they figure its one person out of millions and they don't really need you anymore. That's not the way to do business.

    Hi TrafficColeman (Victoria below),

No, but one of my YAHOO accounts was banned from YAHOO Answers. I was very careful about not posting too many links to my Squidoo lenses, but had three or four complaints anyhow.

I disputed each claim, but got banned anyhow. At the time I was mildly annoyed but it doesn't bother me anymore. Some of the folks over at YAHOO are complete morons.

I've never enjoyed communicating with them over the years for various reasons. They don't seem to listen and they lack reason. I really don't know where they find their volunteers and employees, it's a mystery.

The only thing that has ever worked out well is the fact that they always accept my sites into their directory. Other than that, using their email system has been pretty good.

Any idea what your friend did to get banned?

Victoria: Slashdot, which is owned by SourceForge, it ultra-geeky. I've been reading on the site since the late 1990's - shortly after it opened.

It's rather "touchy" in some ways being that it's so geeky. It houses some of the most hard core geeks you'll find on the planet.

I've heard lots of sob stories in relation to that site by both members and non-members. It's an excellent tech resource but they do take everything quite seriously there.

I'm not surprised at all to hear another banning story. I probably wouldn't waste my time disputing a banning. It's unlikely that you would be able to overturn that sort of decision. Don't feel bad, just let it go.

    Sorry that happened,

No. So far I haven't been and don't know anyone who has been banned.

I agree that it's probably because a rule has been broken maybe without realizing it.

No I have not been banned by any of the 3 in question. I did have my google AdSense account shut down.
I was bothered by it then looked at the numbers and the reality was I only making about $20/wk. I got over the urge to try and fight it pretty quick.

I personally have never been banned, but I know a couple of people who were temporarily banned from Ebay. One of them was banned as soon as he bought my item. I was glad he paid for it first. [IMG] I never found out the reason, but I had to wait 'til he was unbanned to give a review. The other guy I know was banned for shill bids. It wasn't really a ban since it was only a week or two. It was more like a hand slap.

I don't know what the appeals process is for Ebay, Paypal or Youtube, but I understand it can be serious if you depend on those for your income. I guess you just have to make sure you don't violate any of their terms, and if there's any grey area, err on the side of caution.

Recently a paid ad of mine was rejected by Craigslist. In their e-mail they explained that they do not accept ads for MLM. I did not know that when I submitted the ad. They were nice about it and refunded my credit card.

Many sites do not like MLM. Like every industry, MLM has its share of bad apples. It also has its share of very good opportunities.

VictoriaNTC: Many super geeks like to be ultra-elitist and unfortunately often lack social skills. A "ban" letter should always have a clear explanation and a method to appeal. As for what you can do, making others aware by posting here is an excellent start. I for one will not be using Slashdot.

BobFirestone: Did Google at least tell you why they banned you from AdSense?

It is my understanding that PayPal is biased toward the customer when it comes to disputes. Very well they should be. Unfortunately some people use this to their advantage.
