    Hey Guys!

I'm relatively new by Network Marketing (by industry standards anyway- only been in for about 1.5 years). I see the tactics my boyfriend Keith and some of our team members use to cope with family and friends who are not involved with the business, but I know it can be a struggle.

So how are you dealing with it? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Example of a comeback line Keith replies with upon being asked if he's been "brainwashed" by MLM

Brainwashing? Did you ever think your brain could use a little washing? You should try it sometime!"

    lol - that's good!

Actually, I never say much to my friends about what I am doing but they know I make money with my computer and they are so lost when it comes to internet marketing so am seriously considering doing some classes soon.... as with the economy being the way it is, many of my friends are really struggling financially.

haha That's an excellent idea! I too avoid the details (and inherent confusion) however I think conceptually people just don't think of the internet as a Legitimate place to make money. Most people think Internet Business as one of the 3 P's: Porn, Pranks or Programming.

We're doing quite well without using any of them thankfully. I'm sure in another 10 years the thinking will change. Hope your classes are up and running by then!

I don't say too much about it to family or friends, as this is something that I have been doing in my off hours away from my regular 9 to 5 job. There is a lot to learn, and I would like to make mistakes in the beginning in private, learning from them instead of being seen as just falling flat on my face.

I am building up a work at home business because I want to have an income outside of my regular job, which I like very much, but want to prepare for the unexpected. I've been laid off twice in the past, and it was not possible to know what was coming, as management did not talk about it with the staff.

It is not that I am so thin skinned that everthing is a potential failure. Everyone you talk to seems to have seen all the late night infomercials on television, and anything having to do with internet marketing or working at home immediately brings on a chorus of joking and snickering. Few people believe that there is more to the concept than just what is advertised in a 30 minute or so presentation.

Having witnessed this happen a few times, I much prefer this route of proceeding. Later on, it will be much easier to answer the question "How did you do that successfully?" and be taken seriously without question.

It seems that many of the successful internet marketers tend to do this, at least in my area. So, how's you class going on? Are you going to charge them a small fee in order to defray you costs?

Dealing with friends and family who are not involved in network marketing, or any other business venture for that matter, can sometimes be quite challenging. Network marketing can be particularly difficult to combat for three reasons:

    1. Most people don't fully understand the concept.
    2. There is a negative bias that envelopes the industry as a result of bad press over the years.
    3. It's notorious for attracting scammers and many trusting members have themselves ended up getting burned.

Plus, just about every other person you meet knows of at least one person who has had a bad experience with a network marketing company.

So, my approach would be to say nothing to people close to me, until I am convinced of the legitimacy of the company, its marketing practices, and my potential to do well using their plan.

Next, I would want to have achieved some ongoing measure of success that I can point to in order to justify my involvement.

My personal conviction and proof of success would now make it easier for me to share what I do with others. I'd be able to do that in a casual but factual manner, without using hype or pressure.

And if I used just the right tone of subtle indifference in my delivery, it would give me greater leverage to earn their interest, admiration and respect.

Friends and family that want to make money working from home I deal with on that 'level'.

The ones that don't, I deal with them on their respective 'level.

Once you know how to market online and offline to people that truly are interested in a work at home opportunity, there is no need to worry about friends and family.

I've achieved success working online, with little to know family involvement.

It is so nice to be brainwashed to success and making a very lucrative income with this business then to be brainwashed to failure, if you know what I mean.

If someone tells you that you are being brainwashed by your team leaders, then you just say this:

I am being brainwashed to success.

I rather get brainwashed by very successful leaders then get brainwashed by poor people.

    Does that make sense?

If your family and friends don't understand this business and why you are in then just don't tell them anything else. Just go out there and build your business.

Also, just work with the people in your team who are serious and never ever waste your time with people who don't want to do anything.

When you do work with the serious people in your team, good things will happen.

To me the beauty of an internet business is you don't have to tell your friends and family what you are doing until you are successful and doing it for a living or making extra money if that is your goal. Then they will ask you what you are doing and they might ask how can they get involved.

You will get a lot more rejection and ridicule when you are trying to sell to friends and family. Better off to do it without them in my opinion.

I like this idea as well! So far its how I've handled things. The big thing was when our neighbors noticed our third roommate had moved out, and we didn't need anyone else to move in a pick up his portion of the bills! The truth is in the Proof!
