I was wondering how you all go about EFFECTIVELY promoting your website/business??
You are starting out well by joining the forum. You need to participate and add useful advice when you can. When people see that you know what you are writing about, they will be drawn to your site.
Another way is to leave pertinent comments on Blogs and Websites that are related in some way to your main site (they all have a place for links).
Find like minded sites and try to exchange links with them. It is good for both sites to lead readers to each other and for SEO.
Just a few (FREE) ways to promote your site effectively.
Here is a short list of some of the promotional strategies and tools you can use:
- search engine marketing
- opt-in lists
- joint ventures
- article writing
- banner advertising
- web site promotion
- direct marketing via e-mail
- pay per click
- web analytics
- public relations
- web sites
- discussion forums
- news groups
And the list continues...
I use a lot of PTC (Pay-To-Click) traffic. You pay around $1.50 per 1,000 unique visitors and I've found that per 1,000 we usually get 2-3 people interested so it pays off in the long run.
Other ways to get decent cheap/free traffic is with autosurf sites where you get credits to surf and then promote your own site using them. If you run like 10 autosurf sites at once you are making arond 10 unique visitors every 30 seconds, free! not bad
1. Make sure you have the best meta tag info for your website. Do a free search on wordtracker.com to find popularly searched words with the lowest amount of competition.
2. Add as much useful content to your website as possible so you get indexed by the search engines.
3. Try to get popular sites to links to you.
4. Write articles and post them on popular article sites with your url pointing back to your site.
5. Pay per click- These are getting more expensive everyday so watch out.
"If you run like 10 autosurf sites at once you are making arond 10 unique visitors every 30 seconds, free! not bad"
This is true, but what good is the traffic when these visitors are only coming to the site to get visitors to their sites? These seem like a huge waste of time to me...
To me, those autosurf sites help to increase your website hits, not so much about making sales out from it. Unless those people who manually surf on the websites... they will be able to read the content of your website.
What differrence does it make how many visitors hit your site? Is it the 'mine is bigger than yours' mentality? If you want visitors to come to your site to purchase something, isn't it , like Magyk says, just a waste of time?
It should be the sales record that should recommend a product or service, not the state of your visitor counter. Or am I missing something here???
Right on, Denise! You're not missing anything, you are nailing the point. The objective is quality over quantity... sales over visits. Still, in the absence of a qualified, responsive opt-in list, one has to begin somewhere.
I assume that everyone wants to increase traffic to their sites for the purpose of getting more sales. The more traffic, the more likely to get a sale. But there is a quality issue. Some traffic is better than others. Some traffic is your target market while the rest isn't. Your time promoting your website should be focused on getting traffic from your target market.
I have found that Autosurfs aren't the greatest source of traffic unless your website has something to do with that market.
Check out your local chamber of commerce --- my chamber will put a link to your business on their Web site.
When a high-traffic site links to yours it both puts a lot of eyeballs on your Web address and also improves your search engine ranking.
Plus it improves your credibility with potential customers.
Has anyone been able to use free classified sites like craigslist effectively?
I like PPC. I use as many good keywords and keyphrases as i can think of and keep their cost cheap. This along with other marketing strategies keep targeted traffic flowing to my site.
I also do a lot of forum posting. All of the one way links help to get targeted traffic and attention from the search engines.
Forum posting is the best way to get free traffic to a site. Daily I am getting lots of visitors to my site and also we can increase the link popularity of the site.
In response to pcwork I have used craigslist for several of my online ventures. I have found that the ones where I have had the best success were the ones selling a product rather then a service. Also my ads on craigslist for bus opps have netted me no leads. Hope this helps a little.
I agree netvalar. I had no response on craigslist for business opportunities. Limited with just the product, but I don't think I've worked out the kinks of nailing my ad copy yet!
Netvalar thanks for the information

So you saying netvalar the craiglist doesnt work for you. Are you targeting the right keywords. The craiglist can benefit you in certain keywords and text.
It all depends on what you are trying to promote. You also said you had better results selling products then services.
It seems like you have the right mindset and focus.
I see only a couple of people have mentioned article writing. This in my opinion is the best and least cost effective way to market your website. I have been doing this for about a year now and have seen great results. I do use an article submitter and have loaded about 450+ article directories onto it. I get about 30-50 visits per day from just my articles. I have the software I use on my site for free it also includes the 450+ article directories to load onto it as well. When submitting article remember to use your keywords in anchor text to your website and change them each article you write, but always use your website keywords to link to your site.
Another great thing to do is to SEO your site. I've been using Brad Callen's methods now for about 4 months and have attained a top listing for several of my keywords. If you ask me Brad definately knows his perverbial sh@#. I also happen to have a couple of his e-books on my site as well.
Directory submission is another thing I do and this works well in getting one way back links which will help in link pop.
Blog often and at least 2-3 times per week. Search engines love fresh new content.
Traffic exchanges although not that effective can be useful if you use them to gather info. By this I mean use them to build your opt-in list by offering something for signing up to your list. Trust me it works. My list has grown by about 2000 just from using TE's
Hope this helps ya a bit,
My first post here And just done my webpage.
Thanks for the tips, gone try it out. Seems to be a nice forum this.
