In these tighter economic times...what are you doing

Just thought it would make an interesting topic to see what you all are doing to be, perhaps more conservative or careful or thrifty, during these economic difficulties.

For instance, how are you saving or spending differently? What are you putting off (or not putting off)? What tips do you have that you can share?

What I am doing is putting more effort and financial
resources in my home business. I am not going to
rely on the government or anyone else to "bail me out".

I have noticed an increase in the business that I am
involved in and I beleive it is because people realize
the only way to true financial and time freedom is to
work for themselves. It is working, it is working well
and I intend to just keep consistently doing more of
    what I already am doing.

I also do not listen or watch the news. That is the
easiest way to become discouraged and have fear
which will do nothing for you in regards to building
    your business.

Now is not the time to "put off" having a home business
or working at home. Now is the time to have the
determination and grit to go for it if that is what
    your dream is.

I am staying focused in my home office.

The rest of the world will increase online spending, and I will be right there to help them!

    My sentiments exactly!

I too am much more tightly focused on my home business. I've gone back to basics and I stay on the hunt for new opportunities to apply those tactics that have consistently delivered positive results. I've also committed to trying new marketing approaches that will expand my reach and add to my knowledgebase. And, most importantly, I'm trying to be more disciplined when I'm in work mode.

On a domestic level, I've become much more selective about how much I spend and what I spend it on.

I don't either. CNN = Constant Negative News in my opinion. No time for that.[IMG]

Totally agree, you can't have all of the proverbial eggs in one basket, can you.

    AND
Really just focusing on things I already have going. I'm not necessarily not looking for other opportunities, but rather focusing more on the large segement of people who are going to want o work for themselves.

The more I think about the current state of things the more I'm thinking about a BIG GDI push. Low income to start, great growth and incentives, easy to market. My other project(affiliate) is more of a labor of love so I might slow down on it a bit to focus on money.

Ironically enough my full time gig just had this "townhall meeting" of sorts with the President and CFO and things are sitting pretty with my employer, so I'm not to stressed right now actually. More of an opportune moment

I was thinking about investing in another home business (Traverus) but the exchange rate from USD to AUD is not good so it looks like I'll have to hold off for a while.

I'm sitting tight and trying to help anyone who wants to start a home business. I believe there will be quite a few with all the jobless claims lately.

I'm trying to decide which country I'll be moving to this year.

As cynical as it is, America has been on top economically for a while. By on top, I mean good standard of living, low unemployment, low crime (most areas), cheap plentiful food, and a good currency exchange rate versus the world.

With the national debt planned to be over $10T next year and unemployment rising while the new biofuel requirements mean food will be much more expensive, I feel like we're at that point of weightlessness before the free-fall starts. If I'm right about that, being the only family on the block able to buy food because your home business is going well won't be much defense to the entire country going crazy around you. If I'm wrong, I'll just be miserable living in the paradise of my choice surrounded by cute foreign chicks with hot accents...

    Hi HappyGal,

The cost of living is outrageous.

Even so, I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones who has been able to increase my income from my home biz every month for over 10 years.

I am more into the home biz thing than ever before.

Hey Mountain: Isn't it sick how dirty laundry and fear-based drama sells better than anything else?

I always wondered what CNN meant and now I know!! :D

This is a great thread. I asked this question on another forum where I moderate and the answers were very similar.

The economy hasn't affected me to date because I still have my job so everything is status quo. I have noticed more interest in people looking for a home business or ways to make extra money so I am also focusing more on this aspect.

I truly enjoy doing it so it is all good.

    Take care,

    Laura

I guess I am doing things backwards. I have a home business that is starting to go well for me, but I am getting a traditional job. Luckily that won't interfere with my business promotion. I will have access to the internet from work, and will be able to do some promoting from there. The rest I would have to do once I get home. But having this job will give me three incomes. A steady paycheck from work, a monthly SSI check, and finally my business income. I should be ready to move pretty soon!
