A lot of people think this is the easiest way to start in Internet Marketing. I came up with a list of pros and cons and was wondering what you all think:

    - Easy to start in
    - Don't need a website
    - Low start up cost (could be free actually)
    - Can use free traffic generation techniques
    - Great commissions
    - You don't need your own product

    - You need to learn more to become really successful
    - You probably need a website and autoresponder for long term profits
    - You only get part of the profits of the product you sell.

What do you all think. Is the really the best way to start out in the Internet Marketing world?

You sound like you have a good handle on it. In the beginning you can simply have Squidoo lenses and blogs, and then move on to building your own website.

In fact I think it is a good thing to start with the free stuff because you learn a lot as you get your brain wrapped around it all.

I think affiliate marketing is a great way to get started but I am sure everyone has their own opinions on that..... I DO know however, that it is best to simply GET STARTED..[IMG]

Regardless if you go with affiliate marketing, network marketing, an mlm business or whatever it is - the internet marketing bit is where the learning curve is at.

Many folks procrastinate, saying that they just don't know where to get started when all it takes sometimes is the willingness to start with what you know.

Have you looked at the 30 Day Challenge stuff yet? It's a free and great way to get information and guidance.

    Good luck!

    Hi bertuseng,

It's second only to having your own product.

I've had my own product for over 12 years. It's been online for 11 years. I first created it for myself. It worked so well I sold it offline for a few months and then created a website.

But now I have also been doing affiliate marketing. I'm interested in many of the monetization models of online marketing. For me it's both a strong hobby and a biz.

    Good luck,

You can make some really good money with affiliate marketing. Depending on your methods (bum marketing, Paid traffic) it can be a process that takes some time.

Having your own products can def. be more profitable, but it's always a good idea to do affilate stuff first if your starting out just so you can get a feel for what it takes to get a site profitable.

    Hi Mainer64,

I don't know Cody Moya (for some reason the name sounds vaguely familiar)... But anything that I receive that says URGENT I avoid, I mean why would anything need to be done so urgently, except to fill the person selling it's pockets faster?!? [IMG]

I would urge caution on that one..

There is a lot of skimming of commissions for affiliate marketing, so you have to be careful about the products you are selling.

The words URGENT, FEW POSITIONS LEFT, YOU CAN'T MISS THIS, ares pitch sales phrases that marketeers often uses to "call to action", almost every one who is promoting affiliate programs does it.
And Affiliate marketing is just like any business, some times you have to invest some money to improve your profits. And of course you need to constantly learn the new techniques to keep you in the business. [IMG]

From my experience of dumping $20K into junk, the easiest and way to do affiliate marketing is via article marketing like ezine articles, go articles, hub pages, squidoo, associated content, triond. Or blogging.

Article feed traffic to your blogs. And free blogs are just fine. You articles can talk about generic info about your niche that mass targeted audience would want to know about. Your blog can get into specific details about a particular product or subject pertaining to your niche. Both will help the reader and be useful.

You don't have to pick a biz opportunity as an affiliate product. In fact, I don't recommend you start with it. Why? Because you don't know how to use it. If you don't know how to use it nor have money-making experience with it. Chances are, you're not going to convince anyone else to buy it from you.

Pick a niche that appeals to you. If it has an affiliate product or an affilaite service. Great. If it doesn't, use Adsense or get ads like Kontera, Bidvertiser, Chitika, Text Ads, etc.

So if you like video games. Be an affiliate for Amazon or something. Talk about that PSP 7000 to death. Put an Amazon banner with the PSP 7000 on it.

What if you're an iPhone app nut? Go onto Linkshare and ask to be an affilaite for iTunes. However, you're going to have to have a legitimate way to market iTunes. I recommend you tell them Associated Content, or a blog. I wouldn't say pay per click marketing.

At least, i you're going to talk about you niche and there are no affiliate products, you hate blogging but you want to write about it and still make money, go onto Triond, Associated content, Helium, Bukisa. Any of those sites pay you for page views. Just make sure you sprinkle (not stuff) your keywords throughout you content naturally. You'll be paid in revenue views which could take time to build up. But write more. More. More content = More traffic.

I know a little bit about affiliate marketing, not from personal experience but from talking to friends and hearing their opinions. What they have told me is that it can be very useful and bring in a solid revenue stream, however it takes a lot of patience, hard-work and involvement on the side of the affiliate. I've never had the time to look into the option myself, however now that I've become a stay-at-home mum, I might consider it.

Affiliate Marketing is definately one of the simple ways to go. The sky is the limit on the products and some offer very generous commisions. I have a few that pay 100% as its like a biggie size at Wendy's. The owner of the product pays me 100%on the original product and comes in and upsells. I recently found out that I can even become an affiliate for my favorite cosmetic line, how cool is that.

Affiliate marketing is key if you're just starting out. You'll learn over time that to get to the "next level" you'll need your own product. However, there are many advantages (read back through this thread) to just using affiliate products.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

    Good luck.

I am new to the whole web marketing world. I think affiliate marketing is a great low overhead place to start. Take a look at the My Online Income System(MOIS). It is a business in a box type deal that offers hand holding step by step info; great for newbies!

I think your list of pros and cons is good, except I'd add:

    1. You get paid on a 100% commission basis, which means that profits are not guaranteed.

    2. You will have to expiriment with a lot of trial and error to be profitable.

    3. You will need to work hard - if you are not willing to work hard, you will not earn money as an affiliate marketer.
