Is anyone hiring?

Does anyone know of any work from home jobs that are actual jobs? By that I mean something along the lines of data entry, customer service, collections for actual companies. Some place where I can maybe even do an interview and know that I will be receiving a check either weekly or bi-weekly and maybe even have a set hourly rate with the possibility of bonuses? If anyone knows of any company that is hiring, please let me know.

    Thanks!

I have read somewhere in another forum that there are companies like that. Sorry, I don't remember exactly what they were. I do remember some of the people who said they were doing it mentioned that you had to have a very quiet home if you were doing customer service, etc., with the phone, etc.

Others do transcription, like medical transcription, but you would need some basic training for that. Their vocabulary is like another language. [IMG]

Why not take a day or two and go around from business to business in your area and ask if they have any type of work that you could do for them at home along the lines of data entry, etc. I suspect it may be a long shot, but you wouldn't know until you tried. [IMG] At least that way you would know who you were dealing with.

    I wish you luck.

Apply at Career Builder and create an automatic job search agent using "virtual" as a keyword, as in virtual customer service or virtual assistant. Create another search agent with the keywords "work at home". For example: work at home sales or work at home transcriptionist.

Just curious what you have found in your search?? I have a lot of folks ask me what is available in those areas and it has been awhile since I have researched most of it.

If you find something worthwhile, would you mind sharing??[IMG]

So far what I have found are the following companies that are looking for at home customer service agents and for most of them you actually work a set schedule and they require you request vacation days, PTO, etc:

    Alpine Access
    LiveOps
    Arise
    West at Home

    Hopefully this helps!

Thanks - it does. Are you working for any of them? Any comments on how it would work for young moms with little kids??

I haven't personally tried any of these companies but from what I understand they want you to have a quiet background with no kids around, so that was making it hard for the young moms.

Seems like you could pick the hours at midnight, eh?[IMG]

No, I haven't actually applied to work for any of them. As far as the quiet background goes though, I was thinking of the same issues. I have a son and 2 dogs and was wondering how that would work out. My suggestion is if you decide to do something like this is to pick the evening hours where you know you won't be distracted. If you have a husband/partner that doesn't mind helping out, and doing it in another room, it would probably work out. I think their biggest issue is they don't want potential customers calling and know they are reaching you at your home. If you decide to try any of them out, please let me know how they go.
Another reason I didn't pursue it further is currently I am receiving unemployment while I'm in my final year of law school and it looks like the pay would be less than what I make on unemployment so it seemed like a no-brainer to pass it up for now.

LOL - I have plenty to keep me busy at this point and I have a good business going but I run into a lot of young Moms that aren't looking to get started in a home based 'business' - even though I usually tell them, that the term 'business' needn't be scary![IMG]

It's just the way a lot of marketing is done anymore - by networking. And it makes perfect sense, if a company can create a product and then depend on the thousands of 'home busines owners' to market their products for them, why not?

But, still, there are quite a few that are simply looking for an online 'job' - and that is why I was curious what you had found out on it.

    I appreciate your time!

If you're interested in general transcription, try Mountain West, Ubiqus, Tigerfish, Accutran Global. Many general transcriptionists work regular hours every day.

Medical transcription, which I do, does require training.

I had a friend who worked as a customer service person for Arch Memory in St Louis. She worked out of her home, and the customer service telephone line was set up in her house over a VOIP connection. Later, she had a baby and quit her job. You could contact Arch Memory and see if they need anybody like that. Their website is archmemory.com. Or, you could also contact similar companies and see if they have anything similar available.

Don't know of a company, but there are a lot of positions that are steady in the manner you're describing. You could be a virtual attendant, for example, as a few others have mentioned.

    Craigslist?
