Learning About SEO DOES Pay off!

I stopped at a small local business that just opened up a few weeks ago to see what they had and ended up having a very interesting conversation with the owner... which turned into my motivation for the week. [IMG]

I told her I do internet marketing and she proceeded to tell me that she has been on the net since it was born, but that it's just not what it used to be, and their sales are down so they are opening a local store with their goods.

Which I found strange as we live in a very small town.

But as I began talking with her, I discovered that all she knew to do, to get traffic to her websites was to pay for advertising.

Plus they had advertisers that paid to be displayed on HER websites... but because of the economy, everyone was slacking off on paying for ads, not just her, and it dramatically affected her business.

I told her I NEVER pay for advertising.

    She looked at me like..."What?"

(I had told her my internet sales have gone up over 100% this year already)

But as I tried to explain to her briefly what I do with blogs, articles, Squidoo, SBI etc.... to get free traffic, she just shook her head...it was too overwhelming to her... and it was then that I realized just how much all the hard work has paid off.

I want to pass this on as an encouragement to all of you that are learning the ins and outs of SEO and article marketing, etc, it WILL pay off. As the economy puts a crunch on the paid advertizers, it will only benefit us.

    I think that's way cool.[IMG]

That is way cool, MM!! Did you tell her that you'd cut her a deal by doing all of the SEO work for her? As she gets the traffic, the ante can be upped! [IMG]

A very nice post indeed, MountainMom!

It reminds of a few situations where you're talking to someone about what you're doing or how to do something when all of a sudden you look at their face and they have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

Not because you're talking rubbish, but because you truly are an expert (know all the jargon etc.) and chances are, you didn't actually realise it because you had your head buried in the stuff!

Of course, I've had the look when I was talking rubbish too...

And good work on the 100% improvement!

I think my results are similar (it's too late in the day to do the maths (need to get to bed)) but I think the toughest thing was getting regular sales in the early stages, where regular = 1 or 2 a week.

Once you 'know' you'll have a couple of sales a week there's a drive to improve on this, and it starts to have a cumulative effect. Hence 100% improvement is perfectly feasible :-D

Keep up the good work MM et al.

Wow. I am greatly encouraged to learn more about SEO with this thread.

I know you guys are already experts. I am just beginning to learn all of this. Do you have any tips on how and where I would start? I would really appreciate it. I would study hard for it too. [IMG]

    Thanks in advance.

I don't consider myself an expert, but I learned a whole lot with SBI's system about the ins and outs of how SEO works, so that might be an option. I am sure others have their own favorite tools as well - but as long as you keep researching.[IMG]

Like for instance, if you are interested in having a whole website that talks about catering where you can make money with a variety of products including clickbank, adsense, and hard hoods... SBI will help you learn the tricks in doing that with SEO where you will never have to pay for traffic.

Yes SEO is great, it does require time and patience but it works. It is very rewarding especially if you do not come from technical background.

Even though you may not consider yourself an expert, the reality is that you do know much more about SEO and Internet marketing than most people running offline businesses. They will perceive you as the expert and look to you for guidance.

That fact opens a great opportunity for you to provide customized web services to people in that group, as a Web consultant and/or service provider. I'm thinking along the lines of website design, SEO, marketing, copywriting, promotion and stuff like that.

And you don't necessarily have to do any of the actual work yourself. You could outsource it to marketers with whom you've established a relationship over the years. Just make sure that the fees you charge your clients can comfortably absorb your vendor costs and leave you a nice fat profit.

This way you could still work on your OWN seo stuff and keep ALL the profits.

It'll be like having your cake and eating it too, that's way cool. [IMG]

It's great when pieces start getting into place, and then you read something that just confirms you're on the right track. That's what your post has done for me. I reached the same conclusions just a few days ago.

The important thing is to keep going, even when you have doubts about what you're doing. If you are not on the right road just go back and start anew or take another road. Bottom line, don't quit!

This is great motivation! I am still learning about all the SEO tactics, but I have seen results from putting in the work. It is just about working hard at it and being dedicated.

I do have one question though......What exactly is SBI? I hope I don't sound to stupid, but it is not something that I have heard of or tried yet.

No question is ever stupid! [IMG]

SBI ( or SiteBuildIt) is a program you can use that will teach you all about seo and keywords, and all that stuff while they help you set up your website.... which will then draw it's own organic and free traffic thru google searches, and free to me is HUGE in internet marketing[IMG]

In my opinion it is the best program for the money out there. If you know all about hosting your own domain, how to do html, keyword research , seo and all then you may be beyond SBI - but because it is all right there in one package, it is an amazing program... ESPECIALLY for newbies...

    Okay - infomercial over. [IMG]
