Hello All: New guy with first post here. I applied to Westathome took there test and then received an e-mail asking for me to fill out the paperwork (which I did). What should I expect next - I heard of people submitting Resumes and others doing over the phone interviews so I really don't know what to expect. Cn anyone tell me about training, and about how long it Should take after I submit the new hire paperwork?

I didn't have to do phone interview or submit resume. When I received the request for new hire paperwork, I sent it in and then within a day or so received another email with a link telling me I was hired. It will show you how to login to the employee website where you will be able to choose your skill. Be careful of what you choose because once you choose you do not get to choose again, and you must wait until they invite you to another skill which can take months or not at all..there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason as to how they determine who gets additional skills.

I would suggest once you see the skills available to you to do some searches on this forum to see what people's feedback is then choose what you think is best for you..good luck.

Thanks momof3 that was my next question. I'm a retired guy and I'm just doing this to justify spending more time at home. I've spend a lot of time in the banking fields so my desire would be to be more of a customer service person, as opposed to a DR or HSN rep. Is there any way to communicate my abilities skills and desires to West?

No not that I know of..some people have a choice of a couple of skills.. I had DR, Cri**et, or Vir**n Mo*il. I chose DR because it was open 24hrs and I need to work at night..I have 3 children so I have to work when they have all gone to bed. But sometimes West will pick a skill for you based on your background..it's kind of a wait and see..but it's good that you did your research ahead of time..I kind of wish I had found this forum before I picked my skill.

Hi richy, welcome to the board and to W*st. If you have already filled out paperwork (work verification, etc) then you are pretty much hired and should be receiving an email shortly. I would be sure to check your junk mail in case it is in that folder. I received my final welcome email about 24hrs after faxing my paperwork. From there I was able log into the employee website and look to see if I was offered any skills. I was first offered D* and decided to wait a few days and see if I would get offered another skill, thank goodness I did. I know do activations for VM and it's a fun job now that I have the hang of things. As far as I know skills are offered based on the needs of the client. I have a banking background and that has nothing to do with what skills they offered so I'm not even sure they are matching skills with past job experience, etc. Pay and hours depend on the skill but you are going to make at least min. wage for your state. Training is paid and when you are offered a skill it will tell you what the pay for training will be and how long you have to finish the training. My skill gave 14 days/and or 28 hours. Once you have finished training you will attend what they call a webinar, it is an informal phone question and answer session where they review some of the training. Most times there are other people in the webinar but I have heard of one on one sessions too. From there you wait for you passwords and once you receive those you are free to go to the employee website and check out sp*ctrum for hours. Good luck!

Shawn: Thanks for the update, people in this forum seem to be very helpful - that's one thing I already like about work from home. Thanks also for the info on skills. I can understand some of the ***'s but the VM has me confused. Why is everyone using the *'s. Thanks again. Wow it sure is cold in central florida.

Hello Richy- Have you received the "Welcome" email yet? I sent my notarized docs in yesterday and am trying to gain a feel for a timeframe of acceptance (hopefully not a decline) on hire. I was hoping that I could gauge the acceptance rate on your hire since we both seem to be feeling the "cold" weather here in FL.
Thanks to all on this forum for your comments; It gave me a feel for the company prior to applying!

The reason we use the * is there is a privacy clause in the contract when you work for West and I'm sure with other companies like them.
You can't actually use the name of the company you are working for. The VM is short for the company of the skill that I work for. Does that make sense? lol. Yes it is very cold today!! I had to bundle the kids up with hats and gloves this morning! I almost forgot I'm living in FL.

Well I received my Welcome letter[IMG], I loaded all the programs on my laptop and was offered a skill DR bilingual (Spanish) and since I have a hard time ordering at TACO Bell I don't think I would pass the training. Oh well maybe I'll wait and see what comes up next. But to all wondering about the process, mine went like so Applied on Wed, Faxed in paperwork on Fri and received Welcome on Sun. That darn quick in my book.
