I suppose I should start off with a brief introduction..
Hi! I'm Matt. I'm 18, going to start college next year but until then I need to earn some extra cash to help pay for my part of the rent. I've taken a year off of school to try and hone my skills and work on becoming a graphics designer which has been my goal for about 3 or 4 years now. I haven't been doing so well, I've gotten a few jobs but not enough, so I need some extra income.

    Anyways, I have a question..
I'm looking for a job that involves typing - I'm a fairly fast typer so I think that this would be the best one for me but I have no idea where to look. Any suggestions on a typing related job that you could give me?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit; Oh, I'm not limiting myself to just type-related jobs so if you have anything that you think is good I'd love to hear about it, I'm new to work at home type things so I need to know some trusted places. [IMG]
Edit 2; My schedule is rather chaotic as well so preferably keep the suggestions to flexible ones please.

Hey Matt, you will come across supposedly get paid for typing at home. All those are scams and dont waste your time or money on them. There is many ways to make money on the internet, its just about finding the right method that you enjoy doing and someone to mentor you...good luck in your quest

Welcome Matt - Boy, 18 years young... I just wish I coulda found this stuff when I was your age![IMG]

You are good at typing, what about writing your own material or sorta?? A lot of us around here are into affiliate marketing using blogs, Squidoo, hubpages, SBI , etc... and I think it's one of the greatest ways to make some money online myself but it doesn't happen overnight.[IMG]

As far as simply typing jobs - I don't know of any myself but maybe someone else will pop by soon. I do know this - there are a lot of scams out there that claim they are work at home typing jobs, but they are simply taking advantage of the fact that so many folks are looking for that kind of work and use those keywords to catch their attention - sad [IMG].

    Hi Matt,

I second what Mountainmom5 suggested. Do your best to avoid the scams as they are rife online.

In the long run, it's best to put your skills to work for yourself rather than someone else.

If your dream is to provide graphic design, it's a good long term plan to begin building a website around that niche. That's probably not going to bring you in much ready cash immediately, but it's worth considering as something to learn how to do properly and start even now.

Even if you only had the time to devote to writing one page a week to your own website, that would be 52 pages per year, and by the time you finished college, you'd most likely have a really decent business already established.

But, understanding you need some steady money now rather than later, you can probably do some freelance writing.

There are sites like,,, etc. that allow people to post jobs and other people to bid on them. You may be able to pick up some work that way. The systems are laid out pretty well so that you generally do get paid for the work you do.

Again, it may not be an ideal solution, but it's a place to start.

    All the best to you!

Dangit Happywife you took my idea!!! I will just add on by saying I have done work through getafreelancer, and typists are in high demand! Also, I like that site in particular, because you can promote your link on the side, and earn money through the people you refer as well.

Also, please please PLEASE don't fall for any of the "Data Entry at Home" scams you will run into on the internet. A breakdown of it is they tell you that you can make money through this system if you purchase the information. But the information is that you will be placing ads in classified sites to buy the same information from you. Most people that are experienced with online earning know about this, so you won't get many, if any buyers. Save your money, don't do it!
