This is a somewhat qerky but effective technique I use to help me get into working gear.

You need to divie yourself into two! Don't pull out the saw just yet, I mean two perspectives.

You should spend half an hour (or how ever long it takes) in "boss" mode and write down what you would want your perfect employee to achieve today/this week/month and write out tasks for your employee.

Then you take that list and enter "employee" mode and start working as if your life depend son it. Cause it does!

Something I do that is a little strange is putting on a strange hat when I'm in boss mode. Also it helps to be in boss mode when your in a different room. The trick is to make your brain associate certain things with work and productivity and not get bogged down in procrastination.

Just a strange little tip from me. Feel free to post your strange strategies aswell [IMG]

That is a useful exercise especially when you want to outsource. You will already have the procedures documented and you will get to wear your strange hat for longer and longer periods of time.

The bottom line is whatever it takes to be productive. We all have to find out what works for us individually.

Thanks - I had thought about writing down the things I do in a list format, but I didn't take it to the extreme of wearing a boss hat. LOL Anyway, great idea! [IMG]

Hmmm! That's an interesting mind game to play on oneself. If you can
pull it off it could be quite effective, provided the "boss" is objective, and
the "employee" is not a goof off. [IMG]

    Hi William,

The mind likes to be difficult and sometimes that sort of manipulation is just what the doctor ordered.

I've heard of others using similar tactics with success. I know a guy that gets dressed up in a suit and actually drives away each morning.

He goes around the block once and comes back to his house. He goes straight into his office and leaves his suit on all day. It works well for him.

Great idea. I like your version :)

Sometimes when you sit down and think about what you want to do and write it down in a list. Will help you to increase the productivity.

But i don't think myself as a boss. [IMG]

    I love that! Great advice.

Sometimes, it's hard to get going because you wonder if you're going to do it right or if you'll be able to stay focused. But the boss just hands out assignments, plain and simple.

This seems like a really good way to get started by taking the emotion out of the process. It's usually fear that holds us back, and getting rid of it is tough.

    Thanks!

That is a good idea. Ive been finding it hard lately to stay motivated and push me to do things. This will help bring some motivation and drive back.[IMG]

Whatever you need to do to get yourself motivated and disciplined is a good idea!

I've also heard it's a good idea to dress in smart office clothes, to get you into the work mood.

I just find that if it's between the hours of 9 and 5, I consider myself 'at work' - even if I'm sitting on my bed with my laptop!

It's all a matter of personal choice and what works for you.

My productivity trick is focus on 3 or 4 big productive tasks a day.

It works against the idea that most people are really really busy & manage to get nothing done.

Most of what we call "urgent" is not urgent or important.

I think I need to put a proper timetable to print, as I still have my scatter brain moments between how much time to spend at Trading & how much on Marketing ! I think I'll need to put on the gaffer hat & give myself a wack over the head (I need more self discipline)!
