We talk a lot about page rank here, but sometimes I think we might be talking about different things. Some people are just trying to get a PR at all, some are trying to get past 1 and some are trying to do something all together different.

So just in your opinion, for your own sites, what would you consider a "good" page rank to be?

Anything on the first page of Google would be good. On the first page of any engine should result in traffic. That does not always mean you will get unique hits or make sales. A lot of other factor are involved.

Page rank of 3 or higher and you are considered an authority in your niche. So I aim for a PR of 3 or higher [IMG]

    I think a PR3 is ok, a PR4 is good, and a PR5+ is great.
  5. I don't think page rank is that important if your site is on page 1 of google and getting a lot of traffic.

If you get on page one then it can bring you plenty of traffic for the right keyword. I had a PR 10 once on a keyword and still got plenty of traffic. Many times all the other pages are saying much, so people keep looking.

If you can get on the first to third spot on the second page that can work as well, if you have content that is better quality or more attractive to those search that keyword(s), and the first page listings are offering what the person is searching for.

I feel any PR is better than 0 PR.

However, the conversions are what is important here, of course!

Have you ever published a site and found you had a PR 3 two weeks later?

Than, a PR 0 at the next three month update?
This is interesting, and has happened to be a few times.

While it's true that page rank can have some influence on where your web pages appear in the search results, it is only one of several important factors that determine what that place will be.

To truly maximize the benefit of a "good" page rank, whatever that is to you, your page ought to be optimized for your specific keywords and key phrases as well. Along with those, you need to make sure that your title and description tags are short, snappy and precise.

You'll get much more mileage out of page rank if those other factors are present.

I don't think page rank is as important as it has been in the past. The influence on search results still depend on proper optimization and backlinks. As page rank does help it is only a small part of what the search engines are looking for.
