Which antivirus software you use for your pc? When I decided to buy one for my pc, I had a real tough time going through endless reviews on the Net. Finally I decided to go for Kaspersky. I have been using it for over an year and I've not had any problems of virus attack till now. But I think it slows down my pc a bit. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it.

I am currently still using Norton. I have always done fine with this software, but have recently heard of some others that may be better from my brother. However, I forgot to write it down so I don't remember it. I have already paid and downloaded my Norton products, so I am not ready to make a change just yet anyway.

I know this post was made a while ago however..

If you are not using AVG you are not getting the most out of your PC.

AVG is the leading antivirus software out there (my opinion) and it is free.

It will not slow down your PC unless it is running a scan (which you control).

It has saved me from so many threats.. Including websites trying to install software on my CPU without me knowing.

Do a google search for AVG free and download it.

Make sure you remove your other antivirus software first or they will fight o.0.

As of now I am using Bitdefender,KOMODOs strictness makes me landed on this Bit Defender, so far so good. But I like to try some of your recommendations here.

In this case I will go with admin.

Kaspersky Internet Security or Karspersky Pure is the ultimate protection for everyone's PC.

Gotta agree with Matt on this one. As an experienced network engineer / consultant I've used tons of different AV / ASW programs. AVG is by far the best for the average consumer. It's updated with new signatures daily (usually a day or two quicker than the Symantec release as well, which is used for Norton and tons of other AV programs).

Norton, although created by Symantec and very popular, is bloatware in my opinion. AVG is a much more minimalist (for your OS and hardware) program, doing the same jobs with much less resources.

Those of you that mentioned TrendMicro, my hats off to you. My entire network is set up without a single AV scanner (aside from my hardware firewall). Any time there's a security threat (which has never been a virus, yet) I either use my PortableApps drive with ClamWin or TrendMicro Housecall (one the the most awesome implementations of antivirus ever created).

1stepsystem: I never even knew that Adaware branched off into anti-virus protection, I'll have to check that out.

In summary, I'd say anyone unhappy with their current security suites should check out AVG Free.

I have been testing out immunet for the last few days, seems quite good and works alongside AVG.

It even picked up an excel virus that had not been spotted before.

I have used Norton Internet Security for years. It comes with Norton Antivirus software, among other useful tools to keep my computer safe. I do find that it slows down my system when it tries to run automatic updates, which is frustrating.. but it is a good piece of software, and has kept my computer mostly free of viruses for a good long time now. As a tech I have cleaned bad A/V programs from a lot of friends computers.
AVG FREE is the only A/V I recommend and NEVER UPGRADE TO A PAID VERSION! I can't stress that enough, when it expires so does your operating system half the time.
I also use Comodo Internet Security FREE version for the Firewall protection.
Lastly I have always used SpyBot Search & Destroy, again Free but donations encouraged. It's been protecting people for free for a long long time without commercial support.
    Kinda like this forum?
