For those offering services in Mexico, the country code Top Level Domain .MX will be re-opened for public registration on September 1st with no residency restrictions. If you offer swimming gear, for example, you could register nadar.mx come September.

It was originally severly restricted, and has been closed for over a decade. This will be a first-come, first-served basis, so you'll want to have your names ready to go as soon as the landrush starts.

Right now, the Sunrise period is in effect, meaning only those who registered a .COM.MX before March 1st are able to pre-register the exact same name as a .MX.

So, most people will need to wait for the landrush in September in order to register a .MX. However, there are a huge number of good .COM.MX names still available at this point, both in English and Spanish. You can register those and start marketing to Mexico right now. The .COM.MX extension is designed specifically for commercial entities.

Interesting. This could be really good for affiliate programs that are in Spanish, but I imagine they would be hard to find. I know that there are a few products like that on Clickbank, but my guess is that most of the target market for these products is Spanish speaking people living in the US - that's just a guess though.
