Just curious. Can you add Adsense to a webpage that you don't own the domain? For example, if you have a free page with Geocities, Tripod, etc...?

You would need to check the terms of service for those websites. My suspicion is that they won't allow you to do it simply because they put their own advertising on your page, which is why they can give you free hosting.
If you are looking for a free place to put adsense and not have to pay for a domain name, I would suggest blogger (http://blogger.com) as a good place to set up and blog and then put adsense.
Nowadays it's not that expensive to get a domain name (try a .info to start as they tend to be cheaper) and then find some cheap hosting. Lots of packages available. But blogger will be a good start for you.

You are able to use adsense with blogger and they make it so easy for you to use as well.
