I have some questions on PPC:
#1 Is MIVA any good? Or, must we necessarily choose google?
#2 Is it wise to say in the ad itself how much the product would cost, so that people who can't afford it won't even click? Wouldnt that eliminate curiosity clicks, clicks from freebie seekers etc.?
#3 Your personal experiences with ppc
I hope to hear from someone on this.

#2 Yes, its better to include the price if you're selling any products of your own or affiliate products, because lots of people like to get the stuffs for free on internet, very few only likes to get purchased. So, it will reduce the advertiser cost by implementing the cost in the ad.
#3 I done few arbitrage in PPC, but found not good at all, so dropped.. if you believe you have a quality product (either yours or affiliate link) that sells like crazy then the best way is to do with PPC..

You don't have to use Google. Infact you might find better PPC prices elsewhere. Google is great though, especially if you can find low-cost PPCs. I haven't checked out MIVA, but it may be a good service.
I may or may not mention the price in the ad. It would keep the tire kickers away.
I haven't used PPC. I will use it next year and let the forum members know how it goes. Right now I am about to invest a few thousand in software and other marketing expenses. They don't include PPC. However, they do include Yahoo ($299), which is something I recommend to everyone.

Yahoo Directory has a high PR. Furthermore, it is number 1 on Alexa. Google is number 2.
It will go a long way in boosting PR on and traffic to your site. Higher PR will help you rank higher in Google.
It's worth $299 a year.

If you do use PPC, be sure to set yourself a limit as to how much you want to spend per day. Google lets you do that, but I don't know about the other MIVA if that is an option.
Start slow and see how you go as far as converting clicks to sales. Otherwise you could drop a lot of money in a short amount of time with no positive results.

Can you tell me more on this yahoo program? what they offer for $299, is top ten ranking included in this? Pl provide details in your own words, rather than point to a website for details.

What Newbie is referring to is the Yahoo Directory. Basically, it is like any other directory where your website may be listed, except it is THE BEST directory because it is Yahoo. That means the quality of the link in the eyes of the search engines is very very good.
For the $299 you are "considered" for the directory. That doesn't mean you will be listed. If they don't think your web site is good enough, you will be denied and you don't get your money back.
No, you don't get top ten ranking or any other guarantee. You simply get a link from the directory to your web site. It really isn't a link that generates you traffic in and of itself because not a lot of people go to Yahoo Directory when searching online, they use search engines. However it is the value of the high quality link that makes your own site "look good" and that increases your own PR as a result.
If none of this makes sense to you, you probably aren't ready for this yet. Maybe one day I will submit my sites to Yahoo Directory, but I didn't have the money to do so starting out, especially on the off chance I was denied. However I still rank in the top ten in the search engines for many of my keywords, so it isn't a necessity, it just makes things a bit easier if you can afford it.

1. Supposedly, a lot of the smaller PPC networks are plagued with Clickfraud. If you do use a smaller network, make sure to track the number of UNIQUE visitors using a free tracking tool called Statcounter.com
2. There are different opinions about using the price in your ad vs not using it - really, the best way to find out is test your CTR and conversions using a price vs not using a price.
However, you can also use negative keywords such as "free" to filter out people who are looking for free information. To use a negative keyword, just type a minus (-) symbol before the keyword.

Be aware that its not an one-time investment and the charge is recurring every year. If its for the PR alone, then I wouldn't suggest it at all. Yahoo! doesn't link directly to websites and theories have been floating that it hardly might pass any PR to your site.
And you really need to have a quality site to get approved.

1. I don't know how good MIVA, coz i didn't use it before
2. It is up to you to put the cost on your ad
3. I personally feel that ppc can easily lose money if you are not familiar with it.
