Linking to other Blogs might help your web exposure. And subscibing to feeds plus posting in del.icio.us
I have only just discovered these...how slow am I or what? So I'm still working on details and learning the actual workings.
My question is whether you guys use the free version of wordpress and with which hosting account/company or the 2.0 or another one altogheter

CPanel has an option to automatically install a Wordpress blog, most reputed hosting companies offer it for free

Hey PC thanks
Sorry for the late reply. When you wrote that most reputed companies offer it for free do you mean the integration of WP?

Hit some of the social bookmark sites with each post you make. This will help get some traffic going and maybe some repeat visitors. Also, look for like blogs and post comments, including your URL where appropriate. Don't spam. Forums similar to your site are also good places as you can advertise with your signature.

Sure that might be the case. Social bookmarking is a good way to get traffic to your site. Its alot on differnet ways of getting traffic. It also take alot of hard and effort. Its takes time but it worth it in the long run.

I am new to this, and therefore need help. I have just started a blog, and would like to know how to increase traffic to my blog. Some of you have mentioned
- PING
- Social Bookmark site
- Feeds
- del.icio.us
What does the above do, and how does it work? How do I install them or use them?

Are there any other methods as well?

pretty much the same way you do with any other site. It is really important to have a blog that keeps visitors coming back. If someone is impressed by your blog they will likely tell others and that may be the best advertising you can have!

Some search engines prefer blogs to other types of websites

Marketing a blog is easy when you know how. Basically you need to get your blog seen. You don't want any ole traffic. The key is to get returning visitors and a lot of page views. This can be done in several ways. 1.) Before anything you need good, unique, and well organized content. People don't read just anything these days. They need lead ends, bulleted paragraphs, and bold words. You also need to good keyword phrases. Not the ones that bring the most hits, but the unique ones, so there is less competition and your links won't get drowned out by competitors in search engines. 2.) Find related web blogs with similar information. Shoot them an email and request to affiliate link. You d be surprised by how successful this is .. It's also a good way to get your page rank up. 3.)Take the permalinks of your Best blog posts and submit them to sites like Digg, BuzzFlash, and Reddit. If your blog gets a glimpse of the front page of popurl.com, where the most popular links from Digg, Reddit, Mixx, etc. are compiled on one page, you can expect 1-2,000 unique hits. 4.) I also use Facebook and Myspace to advertise to my offline friends. Your friends are faithful. They'll click. 5.) Trackbacks and comments are pretty useful to. Post on similar blogs and leave a link. Don't spam, leave intelligent comments that they'll like and appreciate. Otherwise you're wasting yours and their time. Give them a reason to follow your links. I get a lot of hits from trackbacks, if you write good posts, people will often post your stuff on their site and leave a link back to their source. That's as easy as it gets.

Some blogs will do it automatically whenever you post. Or, you can go to places like pingoat and they will "ping" it for you.

Hi yommys01,

Since you've used Digg, it will be straight forward to learn how to use del.icio.us as it is quite similar.

Hi rcarney6,

Most blogs can be or are set to do so each time you add a new entry. Just look in your blog control panel or read the FAQs.

In addition to the many excellent suggestions others have added, here are a couple more:

1) I don't think we can do this on this forum (Vishal - If you read this, let us know! ) but on many forums you can start or join a "Blog Buzz" thread. Here's the way I like to set them up:

[Remember - This is simply an example. This is NOT a "Blog Buzz" thread itself.]

-------------------------------------------------------------
Begin Suggested Blog Buzz Instructions
-------------------------------------------------------------
a) Visit two of the blogs listed in the thread and help those blogs by doing two of any of the following, listed in order of helpfulness from most helpful to least helpful (my rough estimates).

i) Create a blog post on your own blog in which you say something nice (and genuine) about the other person's blog. Use the name of the blog or the blog's primary keyword when you link to it.

ii) Add their blog to Del.icio.us - Use the blogs primary keyword (if you know it) in the tags and write a nice note about it.

iii) Stumble it - Another social bookmarking site.

iv) If they have a newsworthy post, Digg it and, again, add a nice comment.

v) Comment on one of their posts. Of course, say something complimentary!

With all of the above only do it if it's genuine.

After you help out two other members, then, and only then, add the name of your blog and a link to it.
-------------------------------------------------------------
End Suggested Blog Buzz Instructions
-------------------------------------------------------------

2) Submit your blog to directories. Search Google for "blog directories" and "home business directories" and "network marketing directories" -- whatever fits for your blog's subject matter.

3) If you have a self-hosted Wordpress blog, use one of the SEO plugins. Look through the Wordpress Plugins site.

All the Best,

Mark
