Try places like Digg and Reddit. There's also Mixx, Kirtsy and a host of other sites.
I,too, am part of the older generation and don't feel a need for some of the social networking sites, but I think its all about what you make of it. Don't let the age thing deter you.
You could also promote your site by posting in forums like this one, writing free articles for article directories and adding meaningful comments to blogs.
Best Wishes!

There's always Myspace - while there are a lot of young people there, you can search for older people in specific age ranges, so you can always find someone close to your age!

If you're specifically looking for a "blog site" and want to be able to promote something, then you need to head on over to blogger.com. You can set up your own blog and promote all you want.
On Wordpress.com, however, if you promote a product, they will suspend your blog.

It is always better to get a domain name and web hosting, it costs less than $ 20 / year.

It's not always necessarily better to get a domain name and web hosting. I know that with wordpress.com, if you can get by with being subtle about your promotion, you can get quite a bit of traffic from their own users searching their index. Create a blog on wordpress.com and you'll get quite a bit of free traffic from wordpress.com itself.

Huh! I never knew that. I've never done traditional blogging, but still, that is a handy bit of information for those who are wanting to blog for the sake of affiliate marketing.
I've thought of starting a blog for some off-shoot things that I like and want to promote (but they don't really fit into my niche sites), but just haven't made the time for it yet. This is something I'll have to keep in mind for when I do eventually get around to it. Thanks.
