I would like to know what the best methods are for promoting and advertising business opportunities. First off do traffic exchanges work?

Well you can do link exchange to home business related sites with high traffic of course. It is useless to trade links with other home business site with no traffic. You can do article submission, and I believe the most popular nowadays is blogging.

I personally like article marketing combining blogging, social bookmarking, and article directories.

Traffic exchanges can be risky, posting on classifieds can be effective

Posting on classifieds is one good way. Also, if you do quality work you may get "word-of-mouth" advertising from your clients. If you have a website, you can purchase a link from websites and blogs that have good traffic (check their Alexa ranking) and this will help you get more exposure. The more prominent websites and blogs can be expensive but the smaller ones will give you a good price. I have a few blogs that get a decent amount of traffic so I do some business that way.

Blogging is a great way too, especially if you network with other blogs within your niche.

Lots of ideas.

article writing and classified ads are two very effective ways to promote a business, for example craigslist and ezine articles
